Hi, I’m Luke! Owner and founder of Avidity Deliveries.
Here’s my story of how I found an opportunity during the global pandemic and completely converted a budding recruitment consultancy to a specialised gift and floral delivery business.
I have always wanted to start my own business and after 9 years in recruitment, it seemed only logical to start my own recruitment firm. Avidity Recruitment Consultancy launched in February 2020, just before COVID-19 hit the world, hard.
Starting any new business is tough financially. My wife and I had already moved to the Gold Coast from Sydney, and I started Uber driving in the evenings to keep an income whilst the business got off the ground. This is where things got interesting… Whilst driving, I met a local florist who was delivering flowers. After chatting, it came about that she needed some help with her sudden increase in deliveries. She asked if this was something I would be interested in. I, of course, said yes and thought this would only help make a few extra dollars whilst I continued to work on my recruitment business.
It soon became very apparent that the world was changing, and fast! Starting a recruitment business at this time was not ideal - who knew?!
I remember saying to my wife that I was concerned and really wasn’t sure how things would turn out. I had just moved to a new city, stepped away from my secure job and recently learned that we were expecting our first child. I had to do something to support my family.
After I delivered the first batch of flowers, I thought ‘there’s certainly an opportunity here. In these unprecedented times, where travel is restricted and visiting loved ones is challenging, surely the demand for gift and floral deliveries would be increasing’. I sat down with my wife, and we contacted a variety of businesses to see if this was the case. I had nothing to lose. I explained my situation and that I would be happy to assist and offer delivery services around the Gold Coast. Avidity Deliveries was born.
From there, it has grown. Now 8 months on, we deliver for multiple florists, balloons and gift companies across Gold Coast and Northern NSW. We deliver six days a week, with multiple drivers.
If you had told me at the start of 2020 that I would be starting and running a courier business, I would have never believed you. This was definitely not the plan. Like for many others, this year has taught me that you never know what is going to happen and what journey life takes you on, however, if you embrace the change good things can happen.
This year has brought me two new arrivals, a beautiful daughter and a new business. I am looking forward to continuing to grow the business and am excited to see what the future holds. Who knows what’s in store for 2021?
Well done Luke, congratulations on turning this into a great business opportunity!
