Question#1 - How can AVI help in the context of Horizon Virtual Apps and Desktops?

AVI provides the functionality of server load balancing and global server load balancing for multisite environments. Horizon needs both these features. Look at the table below for more details.

Question#2 - What components of f5 or Citrix can you replace with AVI? 

All components in most cases. You don’t need an f5 or Citrix in most cases. In the illustration, the lower part shows the f5 and Citrix components that can be replaced with AVI.

Question#3 - You said “most cases”, so when do you need an f5 for Horizon?

Some customers have f5 APM iRules which have deep integration with their environment and have scripts that AVI cannot replace currently. Others have endpoint scanning enabled on f5 APM. Both these functionalities cannot be done by AVI at the moment. You will then need f5.
