Not Your Average Rectifier. Not Your Average Harmonic Filter.
Northeast Power Systems, Inc. (NEPSI) is pleased to announce we have recently shipped two large harmonic filter systems for a very large rectifier project located in Canada and engineered by BBA Consultants headquartered in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC Canada. Kudos to BBA for their excellent project execution and filter design. This customer has multiple 40+ MVA 12-pulse rectifiers for use in a chemical process plant. From a harmonic standpoint, the harmonic filter system has a critical function, as the plant would not be able to operate without it. For a point of reference, each rectifier at 13.8kV has the possibility of producing near 180 amps of 11th harmonic current, amongst other harmonics. A significant level of harmonic current that must be filtered. Both HP and C-HP filters are utilized to eliminate resonance concerns, correct power factor, and control the harmonic current flow into the filter bank and interconnecting utility.
The filter system contains all switching, protection and control. It included ABB’s UFES system for arc flash hazard mitigation. Factory acceptance testing included impulse testing to 110kV BIL, SFRA testing for filter verification, partial discharge testing, heat-run and reactor linearity testing to 250%, and much more…. A well tested filter is a filter you can count on.
