Avail & Able

Avail & Able

We all search for new or different ways to inspire ourselves and our teams. I found one this Sunday from Pastor Matt (I was listening). Of course, we all know the old teamwork adage that “there is no “I” in team”. I’ve always added a twist to that saying.  I do think teamwork starts with self, a personal commitment to both the cause and to the team.

This Sunday Pastor Matt was talking about our responsibility to be available to our community. He actually said: “It is all about availing ourselves to be able”. I liked that a lot. He furthered his point by clearly pulling the word “available” into its 2 parts:

Avail=willing to make use, offer up

Able=skill, talent, resource

Are we truly making ourselves available to our team, family, community? Are we willing to make use of and offer up our skill, talent and resources? I was also assured that when we give, we get back a lot more.

I know one thing, it starts with me. Since Sunday I have challenged myself all week. Am I truly available (new definition) to those around me, who need me? I can say one thing, I will get better at it.

Hope this helps you and your efforts to build teamwork, it helped me. Thanks Pastor Matt.
