A big summer of sport may be drawing to a close, but with Autumn season getting started there's plenty to keep us occupied
Kayaking isn’t only for picturesque views, it’s also a great way to relax and destress from the hectic pace of day-to-day life in the real world. Finding peace and quiet on the water is all part of the kayaking experience.
Here’s why kayaking is the most soothing water sport out there:
- Being by the Water Is Relaxing Whether you’re on a river or lake, admiring the small ripples of water around your boat is an easy way to get in touch with nature. Water is also known to create a sense of awe within the beholder. It can be a humbling experience to view how great and vast the water around you truly is.
- Paddling Is a Moving Meditation If you’ve ever done yoga, you know what a moving meditation is. Moving meditations focus on your breath in relation to your steady and constant movements. When you’re paddling down a gorgeous river, you’re doing the same paddling motion over and over again, which is just like doing the same postures over and over again in yoga. We already know yoga is relaxing. That makes kayaking relaxing for those same reasons.
- Kayaking Can Be Social or Solitary If you relax when you’re around others, grabbing a few friends and hitting the water is a great way to destress. Chatting about what’s happened to you recently and sharing the beautiful views around you can be a great source of comfort. If you’re around people constantly and need a break, kayaking can give you that escape as well. Kayaking can give you the release you need, whether that means bringing your friends along for the ride, or heading out solo for some peace and quiet.
- The Sun Soothes Getting some much needed vitamin D can be difficult when indoors. Kayaking gives you the perfect opportunity to get outside and not only reap the benefits of exercise, but also to get some sunshine. As we mentioned earlier in #1, being surrounded by nature can be incredibly soothing. Especially on a day with the sun shining bright, you’ll be able to clearly see what beauty the world around you has to offer while feeling the warmth of the sun tickle your skin.
- Endorphins Make the Brain Happy Exercise (cardio, especially) has been linked to the release of endorphins in the brain. Endorphins are commonly known as “the thing that makes your brain happy”, so by kayaking, you’re fueling your brain with good vibes. When your brain releases endorphins, the stress levels in your body lower. If your body is physically less stressed, your mind will be less stressed, too.
When entrepreneurial life gets confusing, it’s vital to take a step back and do some self-care. If being around nature is what makes you happy, going out on your kayak is the perfect way for you to relax and refocus on the important things in life.
