I am welcoming the change of pace that comes with the fall season in Northeast Ohio.
It was time to update my signature photo to include my in-house office mates who often appear in our programs, podcasts, and meetings. The whole four-legged crew is now officially represented! Don't worry, they’re snoozing as I write this newsletter— their snoring provides the perfect white noise.
It is hard to believe that next month the Virtual Brain Health Center turns 4! And I'm feeling energized to start our Brain Week 2025 planning. Save the date for our mega event of the year on March 10-14, 2025. (We will release our full event lineup in early January.)
LeAnne Stuver and I have been wrapping up some "ideas" including a refresh of the Let's Talk Brain Health! Podcast , expansion of our brain health resource directory, and the launch of our new infographic library. You can access all of the resources and graphics that we have curated over the years on our website for free.
NEW! LinkedIn Group "Brain Health Champions"
?? I'm not sure if this happens to anyone else... but I commonly get asked how people can stay up to date on brain health science when there are so many different aspects to this question- innovation, research, surveys, products, courses, podcasts, campaigns, policy, infographics, and more.
?? They say "two brains are better than one," so I thought it’d be great to have a dedicated "place" on LinkedIn where we can tap directly into the knowledge of our brilliant colleagues, peers, and friends. Whether we have questions like the one above or want to learn more, this space would be the go-to resource for collective brainpower!
Since I didn't find the space I was looking for I opted to create it... and I hope others with an interest will join us and share with their networks, too.
I know we can do so much more together than siloed and there are so many incredible people in our field so let's connect.
?? This group is for anyone and everyone with an interest in brain health. Thanks a myelin to Dr. Alejandra Guerrero Barragan MD, MPH for her leadership in the group, too.
?? Silly Science Sunday Event
The Virtual Brain Health Center had a chance to "build better brains" with kids and their grownups during a local event with our science center.
At our vendor station we crafted neuros with pipecleaners and beads, experienced brain breaks, and shared inspiring coloring sheets. (Explore our event page for a variety of neuron building handouts for kids of call ages including a neuron hat!)
?? "Whats a neuron?" was the most popular question that we received and we learned a lot from our discussion with kids and adults of all ages.
Attendees shared that they were grateful to find a "quiet corner" within the STEM event and invested their time and energy into the care of their own brains.

?? Breaking the Age Code: How Your Beliefs About Aging Determine How Long and Well You Live by Dr. Becca Levy, Ph.D.
?? Ageism is a widespread and socially accepted form of prejudice that impacts our health, financial security, and economy. The World Health Organization defines "ageism" as the
? stereotypes (how we think),
? prejudice (how we feel), and
? discrimination (how we act)
toward others or oneself based on age.
Join us to learn more about how our view of aging impacts our brain health, optimal wellness, longevity, and more. ?? An open invitation to join us.
And with Ageism Awareness Day with the American Society on Aging coming up on October 9- this is a great book to explore and start the conversation on ageism.
If you'd like to explore this topic for a book club or virtual event be sure to check out the free, valuable resources from Changing the Narrative, a leading anti-ageism initiative on their website.
