AUTUMN ’22 UPDATE: New tools available in PIX4Dmatic and PIX4Dsurvey

The Autumn ’22 update has just been released for PIX4Dmatic & PIX4Dsurvey, with a slurry of epic features to streamline your surveying and mapping work.

In this blog, we’ll be looking at what’s new and how to get the most out of new update.

PIX4Dsurvey 1.35: profiles, sections, and essential exports!

PIX4Dsurvey aims to bridge the gap between photogrammetry and CAD or GIS, and is constantly evolving as new vectorising tools for surveying and mapping professionals are added. The software has time- and labor-saving automated capabilities and tools such as object detection, stockpile detection, and road marking. Continue reading to learn more about the latest release’s new features.

Profiles and sections

A section is a valuable surveying tool that illustrates how an area or object appears from the side and provides accurate data on elevation changes. While working with PIX4Dsurvey, you can use the shortcut, draw the profile in the area of interest, and see the section appear in its own viewport, where its visualisation settings can be modified. Mark the important aspects of your project, such as the peak of a roof, the front, back, and bottom of a curb, and the perimeter of a stockpile. However, there’s more! In the profile section, you can directly digitise, using this tool not only to vectorise but also as a refinement tool for vectorisation already performed on the project, working in tandem with the images for greater precision.

Clear and efficient project management?

PIX4Dsurvey’s user-friendly interface, continues?to be?enhanced?to make the workflow faster, simpler, and easier. Using this principle and in response to user feedback, the new update displays the project management in the left-hand content panel. All input data, such as photogrammetry projects and point clouds, are now visible, and you can toggle the visibility of the project or components, allowing you to display and manipulate the appropriate images and point clouds at the appropriate time.

New Geoids and Essential Exports

The most recent PIX4Dsurvey update enables users to export marker data in the most common file format used by surveyors, .csv. This new option provides greater flexibility, as the user has complete control over the column format of the file and can choose whether or not to include headers. In addition, you can already timestamp and suffix your export files in PIX4Dsurvey for greater control over your files. TINs can be generated from single or multiple grid files, grids and terrain layers, or terrain layers alone, depending on what makes the most sense for your project. Thus, you have complete flexibility to include the appropriate information in your TIN where you need it most.

PIX4Dmatic 1.35: view your mesh!

Introducing a brand new?PIX4Dmatic viewer! Utilising the new viewer, you can now visualise your 3D meshes in textured or shaded mode, experiment with new processing options, and view an expanded image import capabilities.

An all-new mesh viewer

Extend your reconstruction workflows with 3D meshes that contain accurate and realistic real-world data. PiX4Dmatic’s previous iteration allowed you to the mesh generation enhancements: fewer artefacts caused by missing and noisy data and greater geometrical precision. You can now view your results in our brand-new mesh viewer! Generate your mesh with additional options based on the needs of your project, and then view it in Textured or Shaded mode. Even if your point cloud contains some noise, you can now obtain cleaner geometry, sharper textures, and detailed, high-definition results thanks to the constant development of our algorithm. In addition, the 3D measurement tool is available for a rapid check of the mesh’s scale accuracy.

Increase the efficiency of your data imports

Importing the GCP file is now more flexible with this?new release. A brand-new import and preview dialogue in column format was added, allowing users to select the columns they wish to include and view a preview of the file. Simply import the file and make any necessary modifications to your project and data.

With the removal of position and orientation requirements for input images, you can now process your project without having to search for and remove images that lack this information. Increase the number of compatible cameras and import any type of image, so long as it has EXIF and XMP tags.

Improved marking and more automation

Marking identification has been simplified: not only is the outlier mark indicated in the tie point table, but the corresponding images can now be viewed in the image viewer, saving you time when investigating errors. In addition, the outlier is represented with a red line in the 3D viewer, making the outliers display more comprehensive.

PIX4Dmatic is a one-of-a-kind photogrammetry software because it combines the advantages of photogrammetry and terrestrial LiDAR technology and offers an end-to-end terrestrial workflow with the viDoc RTK rover and the PIX4Dcatch application that acquires LiDAR and RGB images. This workflow is now more efficient and intuitive. With this release, PIX4Dcatch data now have a new processing option template. When imported, the software automatically identifies these data and applies dedicated and optimised options to all photogrammetric processing steps.
