Technischer überwachungsverein popularly called TüV has colloquially become a synonym for technical inspection of Motor Vehicles in Germany. From the purpose of definition TüV ensures Regulatory compliance to state laws and serves the larger purpose of indirect administration. TüV in that sense covers Device and Product Safety in the Automotive Industry.
With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) the decision making in influencing life or death is not with Electronic Control Systems and its ASIL compliant Silicon but with the Algorithms which learn before and after launch to make independent decisions.
Dirk Stenkamp CEO of TüV Nord discusses in this article published in Handelsbaltt about why static test procedures from the historical mechanical and electrical Engineering world does not fit for #Autonomous Driving with #AI onboard. Herr Stenkamp details the Focus Criteria being defined and intensively pursued by TüV to be able to issue a "Führerschein für Algorithmen"
"Es muss nachvollziehbar sein, wie ein KI-Algorithmus entwickelt und trainiert wurde, wie er Entscheidungen ableitet und welche Lern- und Trainingsmuster angewendet wurden" brings the Data Marking and Scenario Generation stages of Vehicle Autonomy under TüV jurisdiction.
"Dazu muss den Prüfern auch der Zugang zu den Quellcodes der Systeme zug?nglich gemacht werden" which translates as a requirement to open the source code of the Algorithms to the Test organizations could be debatable to all Stakeholders involved though.
The article is recommended as a good read to understand how Germany is aiming Transparency, Competitiveness and Innovation with the ultimate aim of Digital sovereignty in Autonomous Driving.

5 å¹´worth to read artical.. it has new prospective for future transperency i.e Es mu? Nachvollsiehbar sein. but at same time from infrastructure and capacity point of view i would say its long way to go. like hindi/urdu peoverb : Delhi abhi dur hai !!!
