Latinos and immigrants are starting businesses at *twice the rate* of the general population, according to research out earlier this year by UCLA Economist and Professor Robert Fairlie. Despite their resilience and contributions, many Latino business owners face significant barriers, including unequal access to capital, networks, and coaching. Minority-owned small businesses are a crucial element in the economic well-being of cities across the U.S. Latino entrepreneurs are starting small businesses faster than the rest of the startup population and becoming a bigger part of the total U.S. market every day. Estimates are that they will make up 29 percent of the U.S. population by 2050, up from 17 percent today. They represent a great opportunity for corporate entities to broaden and diversity their supplier and procurement initiatives.

Latino-Owned Businesses Are Booming, but Access to Funding Remains a Challenge.. "We have to acknowledge the diversity within the Latino business community. And we have to understand their differences, because they're not just centered on challenges, but they're also sources of strength, resilience, and even innovation." Latino-owned businesses contribute more than $800 billion to the U.S. economy. And Latinos are starting new businesses at rapid rates: between 2007 and 2022, the report found, there was a 57 percent increase in Latino-owned businesses, compared with a 5 percent increase in the number of White-owned businesses.
