Autonomous surveys: Not the future but reality
Autonomous vehicles reduce safety-related risks for personnel, cut time, and allow operations to be performed in hard-to-reach areas in conditions that might be hazardous for crews. This concept once just a nebulous idea is now a reality.
German offshore wind services provider WINDEA Offshore and marine data acquisition company Subsea Europe Services have entered into a strategic sales partnership to provide autonomous surveying for the offshore wind industry.
The partnership will see the combination of Subsea Europe Services’ autonomous surface and subsea vehicle fleet and crew transfer vessels (CTVs) and service operation vessels (SOVs) operated by WINDEA ‘s shareholders.
U.S. autonomous robots developer Nauticus Robotics has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MMA Offshore to deploy its Aquanaut autonomous subsea robots in the Asia Pacific region.
Nicolaus Radford, Founder and CEO of Nauticus, said: “This MoU is just one in a series of strategic moves we are making to disrupt autonomous subsea robotics and solidify our place as the industry leader in the field."
Nauticus also entered into a service contract with energy giant?Shell for the use of Aquanaut - a project said to feature the company’s first-to-market method of autonomous subsea manipulation on live subsea assets in more than 1,000 meters of water depth.
UK's SEA-KIT International secured funding from the Zero Emissions Vessels and Infrastructure (ZEVI) competition to design and manufacture a hydrogen-fuelled uncrewed surface vessel (USV).

The ZEPHR project aims to extend vessel operation for port operators and stakeholders through complete energy transferal, from readily accessible green electricity to 100% green hydrogen production, compression, storage and dispensing.
Staying in the UK, Aberdeen-based Underwater Contracting (UCO), owner of the largest fleet of Saab UK’s Seaeye Falcons, ordered a further six underwater vehicles to cater to contracts in renewables, oil & gas, and aquaculture markets.
