Autonomous driving is the future of vehicles.

Today, Tesla's market cap is more than all other car manufacturers combined, globally. Many people don't understand the reasons for this valuation since they consider Tesla to be solely a car company, whereas Tesla is much more than that.

Cathie Wood, world renowned global investor and one of my personal inspirations is one of the greatest investors of our time, having returned north of 100% on her portfolio companies last year alone. Her highest conviction company is Tesla, since she doesn't look at the company as just a car manufacturer. She looks at them as a technology company. As of today, Tesla has over 12 billion miles worth of data. No other automotive company has this much data collected. She believes that Tesla is going to lead the world when it comes to autonomous taxis. This shows you how technology has truly propelled many of the new companies of our time far ahead of the older companies which I like to refer to as dinosaurs.

China has also committed to a zero carbon-emission policy by 2060. Keeping in line with their vision, they have created their very own brands of electric vehicle start-ups which have now consolidated to three market leaders and among them are NIO and XPeng. NIO is backed by Tencent and XPeng is backed by Alibaba, two hallmark names of the Chinese technology growth industry.

Apple recently announced that they are also planning to bring their ‘Project Titan’ to life which focuses on launching electric vehicles by 2024. This has created a huge hype in this industry and it reminds me of the ‘.com’ boom in the late nineties. As everyone saw back then, markets can correct, resulting in a few winners and I think the likes of Tesla and NIO will push through.
