Several AI experts have recently cited the paper “Generative Agents: Interactive Simulacra of Human Behavior ”, using expressions such as “mindblowing ”, “supercool ”, “the coolest research of our generation ”, “one of the most important papers ”, or simply “fascinating ”.

Very few people have however spotted how simplistic the behaviour actually was, that all these autonomous AI agents were able to perform as a result of an apparently very costly and resource-intensive approach, involving thousands of dollars in ChatGPT tokens...
