Automotive Efficiency 1.2

1.2 Allocation of work

Technicians should be monitored to ensure they complete the jobs allocated to them efficiently, Job controller must make sure the job is allocated based on Skill of the technician, there should be skill matrix available for job controller to be able to complete allocation.

Technicians also must be considered to fast forward the trainings based on the interest and intellectuality of individuals.

Training should be considered as 20% skill, remaining 80% will be improved by individuals by experience on job, learning from other technicians.

Once the technician completes the training does not mean he is qualified to complete the repairs. Foreman/ Workshop supervisor has to closely monitor the performance of the trained technician for at least 90 days to assess the skill enhancement.

Let’s see who is responsible to implement the above facts:

Operating Controls of After Sales Manager/ Service Manager

  • Does reports track Efficiency by Technician and for the total Workshop daily?
  • ?Are standard and actual hours accurately recorded with disciplined clocking on and off jobs by Technicians?
  • ?Are there adequate facilities and equipment, together with sufficient skilled Technicians to fulfil the sales potential?
  • ?Are individual technician efficiencies monitored across a range of jobs to identify training needs, with work allocated accordingly?

Operating Controls of Foremen/ Workshop Supervisor

  • ?Does the allocation of work reflect the skills of each Technician?
  • ?Does reports track Efficiency by Technician and for the total Workshop daily?
  • ?Are standard and actual hours accurately recorded with disciplined clocking on and off jobs by?Technicians?
  • ?Is warranty work requiring high levels of diagnostic skills allocated appropriately?
  • ?Are there adequate facilities and equipment, together with sufficient skilled Technicians to fulfil the sales potential?
  • ?Are Technicians monitored for actual time against the Target time for each job to ensure that any problems are readily identified?
  • ?Are individual technician efficiencies monitored across a range of jobs to identify training needs, with work allocated accordingly?

Operating Controls of Technician

  • ?Are standard and actual hours accurately recorded with disciplined clocking on and off jobs by?Technicians?
  • ?Are standards of discipline maintained to ensure that Technicians are not taking unauthorized breaks or ‘stretching’ work to qualify for overtime?

To the point , in-depth and respected efforts Appreciated if you can shade some light on Sold efficiency (sold or invoice hours) because most of the times they are different from standard hours and actual hours.
