Automating umbrella reviews with ChatGPT
Can you automate the process of conducting an umbrella review with ChatGPT? Sure you can!
This brief article will show you how to do it in a quick yet reasonably accurate fashion.
Step #1 - Collecting evidence
I recommend you to look for evidence in PubMed, using the dedicated query tool systematic[sb], which shortlists only systematic reviews on a given topic.
Step #2 - Saving evidence
Now save the first 200 abstracts from your PubMed search in a folder of your choice. They will come useful in a few minutes.
Step #3 - Uploading the abstracts in ChatGPT
Now open ChatGPT, and upload the abstracts which you had saved as a .txt file
Step #4 - Providing a blueprint
Now upload as an attachment a blueprint or instruction file (I typically rely on my book on Umbrella Reviews: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-25655-9)
Step #5 - Providing an introductory prompt
Now provide an introductory prompt to ChatGPT, to request it to screen the abstracts and generate a suitable index of the umbrella review
Step #6 - Refining your prompt
Now refine your prompt, asking ChatGPT to expand the scope of the index
Step #7 - Adding graphs and tables
You can also request ChatGPT to generate pertinent graphs and tables
