Automating the toil - Part 6a

Automating the toil - Part 6a

Today's automation: When a new email arrives, put the report details into one or two SharePoint Excel files & create tables to be read in another flow.

Why?

Operational teams often have to use different platforms from different providers, and this means having to collate and manage data from a few sources. This is tiresome, time consuming and generally not efficient. It's also not exactly a precursor to job satisfaction!

This flow automates and collates useful reporting info from one platform and stores it in SharePoint, allowing it to be read more easily - and it means it can then be manipulated by other automation flows. Ultimately this saves time, effort and keeps data fresh for the team.

How?

Today's flow

  • The flow is triggered when I receive a new email from our Service Management platform.
  • The email must pass a number of criteria and be in a certain location before it will do anything with it. This is to prevent unwanted email content being included.
  • If the subject contains a certain specific email subject, the flow retrieves attachments, creates a file in SharePoint, and creates a table in Excel.
  • If the subject contains the other specific email subject, the flow performs similar actions as above but with different file and table names.
  • If the subject does not match any of the above conditions, the flow is cancelled.
