Automatic Power Factor Control Systems
Paul B. Steciuk
28 Years. Thank you for the memories. I have left NEPSI. Looking forward to new challenges and whatever life has in store.
We are slated for another great tech talk this week, Thursday, August 6. This one, Tech Talk Session 14 is focused on automatic power factor correction.
A key part of a well-designed, fully integrated metal-enclosed solution is the automatic power factor control system, which monitors the power flow in the network and automatically adjust the reactive compensation output of the metal-enclosed system to keep the network at a preset power factor. Other key parts include an HMI (human machine interface), communication, interlocking, interfacing with the protection system, remote control, and override functions.
In this Tech Talk session, we will discuss some of our common control components, control strategies, and control philosophies. We will touch on the basics of power factor control, common power factor controllers utilized in the industry, stage sequencing, steps versus stages, power factor control on redundant power systems, interlocking, and remote control.
Come to this tech talk to see how the industry leader integrates controls into medium voltage reactive compensation systems and gain some insight into how you might want to configure your system.
