I wrote to you last week that ECI installed three DKS? DoorKing? Swing Gate operators for an Illinois company in a southwest Chicago suburb. The customer supplied all of the equipment. We installed the interface wiring and operators and also tested to ensure the vehicle detector loops operated properly.
We also installed DKS? DoorKing? 1601 Traffic Control Barrier Gate Operators at the same locations. Shown above is a secondary exit lane with the barrier gate (flush left) vertical and open while the swing gate is closed. Notice the vehicle detector loop in the foreground.
When closed the swing gate opens in, towards the vehicle. Therefore, the barrier gate is positioned back from the edge of the swing gate to hold traffic at a safe distance so there is no collision when the gate opens. The yellow bollard stops the gate from accidentally swinging too far.
Shown below, at the same location, is another set of dual access and egress lanes. The swing gates are closed and the barrier gate arms are open in the vertical position. When the swing gates are open, the automatic barrier gate arms stop vehicular traffic from entering or leaving the grounds.

To gain access a driver must present authorized access control credentials at an access control reader. Egress is automatic when the vehicle stops over the vehicle detector loops which in turn relays the barrier gate to open.
The 1601 combination barrier gate arm and automatic gate operator is ideally designed for high-use single-lane traffic. It can be mounted either on the right or left-hand side of the road and accommodates lanes 12 to 14 feet wide.
Optional heaters and fans for colder environments are available. Lighted barrier (red when down and closed and green when vertical and open) bars are available as well as breakaway arms to minimize damage from accidental vehicular strikes. Folding arms (12 feet maximum) are another option for garages with low ceiling heights.
Sensors can protect against pedestrians wandering below the arm. The arm will automatically return to the vertical position instead of continuing to close in the horizontal configuration if it senses any object in its downward path.
