Living on the autism spectrum is a complicated journey. Each person on the spectrum possesses their strengths and areas of improvement, while all living with the same diagnosis. Some autistic people deal with being on the spectrum in more challenging ways, with many of them needing support and therapies throughout their whole lives. Others on the spectrum are higher-functioning and, along with support and therapies, can work very hard and develop enough to live productive and satisfying lives that align with their goals.
My story entails a long road of being diagnosed at an early age and receiving a variety of support resources to improve the skills that autism presents challenges for. Through a decade-plus of hard work, dedication and persistence, I believe my life story is heartwarming and demonstrates how hard work pays off.? I have lived through some of the hardest experiences that a higher-functioning person on the autism spectrum has thrown their way, including bullying, lack of understanding by others and extreme self-doubt about my own abilities.?
Over the years, I have slowly developed self-confidence through successful lived experiences and learning from my errors. Living with autism is both interesting and hard, and it takes a self-determined person on the spectrum to condition themselves to be comfortable in those complex moments. I hope my story will inspire others in similar situations to develop and grow, because while it appears daunting at times, if I can achieve what I have, so can others. ?
