Author's View Points

This book starts with the beautiful Japanese proverb, " One staying active will make you want to live a hundred years"

This book is divided into 9 Chapters, and in every chapter, the author just wants to connect us with our surroundings for a happy life.

I am excited to read and tell you about the different chapters in this book. I think this will bring a great change in our journey ahead.

IKIGAI: A mysterious word

The Japanese concept, which translates to"The happiness of always being busy", is just like a LOGOTHERAPY.

Okinawa Island is where most of Japan's Shikuwasa- a limelike fruit that packs an extraordinary antioxidant comes from.

She and the Authors have done so much research, and then this amazing book has come out for us. I suggest all of you give a single reading it is connectable to our surroundings too You not just thank the author for this book, but you want to tell about this book to your loved ones.

Okinawans live by the principle of ichariba chode, a local expression that means " Treat everyone like a brother, even if you've never met them Before"

They practice yuimaaru or teamwork and so are used to helping one another.

Chapter 1 (The art of staying young while growing old)

What is your reason for being?

Every person has their own Ikigai, and that is hidden deep inside us, and finding it requires a patient search.

Ikigai is the only reason why we wake up in the morning.

The diagram in the book given by Mark Winn talks about the different areas

What the world needs, what you are good at, and what you can be paid for the things is linked to each other.

What you do, don't retire!

Japanese Philosophy on the lasting health of body, mind and spirit.

you know what in Japanese culture, no word means retire in the sense of "leaving the workforce for good", as in English

Having a purpose in life is so important in Japanese culture that our idea of retirement simply doesn't exist there.

The island of (almost) eternal youth

Their blood tests reveal fewer free radicals (which are responsible for cellular ageing) as a result of drinking tea and eating until their stomachs are only 80 Percent full.

The Characters Behind Ikigai means "Life", and another means " to be worthwhile." that can be broken down into the other characters. which mean "armor"," number one," and "to be the first"(to head into battle, taking the initiative as a leader) which means " Beautiful" or "Elegant"

The five Blue Zones

the world's Blue Zones. Women, in particular, live longer and have fewer diseases than anywhere else in the world. the five regions identified and analyzed by Dan Buettner in this book

1st. Okinawa, japan (Especially the northern part of the island) In addition to their philosophy of ikiga, the moai, or close-knit group of friends, plays an important role in their longevity.

2nd. Sardinia Italy (Specifically the provinces of Nuoru and ogliastra). Locals on this island consume plenty of vegetables and one or two glasses of wine per day.

3rd Loma Linda, California. Longest living people in the USA.

4th. The Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. Locals remain remarkably active after ninety.

5th. Ikaria, Greece. One of every three inhabitants of this island near the Coast of Turkey is over ninety years old, a fact that has earned it the nickname the Island of Long Life.

The 80% Secret

The most common saying in Japan is " Hara hachi bu" which is repeated before or after eating and means something like " Fill your belly to 80 Percent."

Having 5 Plates in front of you makes it seem like you are going to eat a lot, but what happens most of the time is that you end up feeling slightly Hungry. This is one of the reasons why westerns in Japan typically lose weight and stay trim.

Moai: Connected for life.

It is customary in Okinawa to form close bonds within local communities. A Moai is an informal group of people with common interests who look out for one another

they together contribute, play games of go and shogi (Japanese chess) or whatever hobby they have in common.
