AUTHORS: BEWARE of the Booktoscreenplay.com
You may have seen a Facebook post from Kathy Krantz Stewart, a former actress turned film producer, offering to turn your book into a screenplay. The https://www.booktoscreenplay.com/ website tells you:
This site includes our partial writer's portfolio and information about the services that we offer as?freelance Screenwriter Services. Do you have a fabulous STORY IDEA synopsis or OUTLINE, or a BOOK or EBOOK you want us to convert to a SCRIPT that you want to come to life onto screen in the movies? We will write you a Professional Screenplay for?Film or TV? Kathy and Colin, both award-winning IMDb listed screenwriters, would like to turn your novel, book or eBook into a potentially award winning script, maybe even a film, miniseries or TV, series if your script is purchased by a producer.??
There is a tiny input box where you fill in your information and Kathy Stewart will answer within 24 hours with a fancy email that extols the virtue of the Screenplay Factory, and numerous prizes their scripts have won.
Then comes the cost hook. Her email tells you:
We charge $5,000. for a professional 100-page script. Your book is condensed from an average size novel into a 100-page professional script format created via our artistic interpretation. The script is sent to you in a PDF document only, which is expected by producers and film festivals too. We haven’t adjusted our rates upward in 15 years to match inflation. We’d rather work and provide you a professional screenplay from your book.?
Your book can be over 100 pages, like many are. It is brought into PDF pages of a script format that producer’s and studios require and expect of a script. If your preference is a longer 110 or a 120-page script, then add a 110-page script is $5.500.00 or $500.00 for each 10 pages. You may wish to increase your script size to include more of your story. For example: 120 pages of script is $6,000.00 (or $500.00 for each 10 pages), 110 pages of script is $5,500.00. (Each 10 pages of script is $500., script is created from a book of 100-600 book pages long)?
Our book to script fees are very reasonable: WGA writers must charge union fees and are often charge more, like $100 plus thousand dollars lately, and even beyond $500 thousand. We are VERY reasonable for writing a professional screenplay written by an IMDb listed multi-award winning screenwriter and film producer. ?

The total charge for a 100 page script of our artistic interpretation of your book, written from one AVERAGE SIZE PAGE NOVEL of 100-600 pages with dialogue is only $5,000. We start the new 10 pages of the script when paid in advance for those new script pages. We work from 1 book to 1 screenplay, no additional supporting documents or additional books are needed or used. However, we often use the Internet for research.?
The thing is, once you have your book converted to a screenplay, the Screenplay Factory doesn’t want to know you. They have their money, and you are free to approach agents and filmmakers to option your screenplay, and hopefully turn it into a film. If you want to enter screenplay contests and pay more money to do so, that is your business.
I asked Kathy to tell mw which screenplays the Screenplay Factory wrote were turned into films. Her response: Do you own due diligence. That’s an open invitation to stand at the cliff’s edge and jump.
If a producer or director gets to read your book and likes it enough to consider it for a movie or TV show, they will option your work … and most often pay you for the option, but not necessarily, and that is not a scam from reputable producers. It is simply how business is done. You DO NOT need a ready screenplay to approach a producer. If they like your work, they will engage a screenplay writer to write one.
So, be wary of glowing credits that surround Kathy Krantz Stewart and the Screenplay Factory, and hold onto your money.

7 个月She is actively stealing from me. She lost the script and expects me to pay for it again. I said no, after I gave her another 1000.00 for the last 20 pages. She blocked me and is not going to work on the script or give my 1000.00 back I just paid her. I'm taking her to court. Beware this scammer!
I forgot to mention the script contest I supposedly won with the two people I was referred to (as a prize I guess) wasted my time. Now I think successful script writers don't run contests as they don't need the money.
yup scammers come from everywhere these days. I was suckered in by what is called a vanity press for a small book with 5 stories. 500 dollars and one sale so far to my grandaughter!

2 年Good to know, thank you. I saw her post and my first question was, 'how many screenplays have been made into films?' - the answer you quoted above says it all.
