Authority of The Believer - Access to The Peace of God

"Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you;..."

As a Christian, one of the greatest privileges we have is to acquire the peace of God. The peace of God is a state of inner calm and contentment that transcends all understanding. It is a peace that is not dependent on our circumstances or external factors but rather is a result of our relationship with God.

What is God's Peace?

God's peace is different from the peace that the world offers. The peace that the world offers is based on external factors, such as wealth, health, or success. In contrast, the peace of God is an internal state that is based on our relationship with Him. It is a peace that is rooted in the knowledge that we are loved by God and that He is in control of our lives.

Where does God say we can have His peace?

The Bible is filled with references to the peace of God. Here are just a few examples:

Philippians 4:7 (AMPC) - "And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

John 14:27 (AMPC) - "Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]”

Isaiah 26:3 (AMPC) - " You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, andhopes confidently in You."

Biblical Person References

The Bible is full of examples of people who experienced the peace of God. One such person is Paul, who wrote much of the New Testament. Despite being imprisoned and facing persecution, he was able to experience the peace of God. In Philippians 4:11-13 (AMPC), he writes, "Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am.I know how to be abased and live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance. I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation, whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency and enough to spare or going without and being in want.I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency].”

Another example is Jesus himself. In John 16:33 (AMPC), he says, "I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]”

Modern day Person references

Martin Luther King Jr.: King was an American Baptist minister and civil rights activist who advocated for nonviolent resistance against racial injustice. He drew heavily on his Christian faith and teachings to promote peace, love, and justice.

Corrie ten Boom: Ten Boom was a Dutch Christian who, along with her family, helped hide Jews during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. She was imprisoned in a concentration camp, but continued to spread hope and love to her fellow prisoners through her faith.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor who opposed the Nazi regime and was executed for his involvement in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler. He wrote extensively on the concept of "cheap grace" versus "costly grace," emphasizing the need for Christians to live out their faith through actions of love and compassion towards others.

In conclusion, as believers in Christ, we have the right and privilege to acquire the very peace of God. This peace is not dependent on our circumstances but rather is a result of our relationship with God. We can experience this peace through prayer, reading the Bible, and trusting in God's plan for our lives. May we all seek to experience the peace of God that transcends all understanding.
