Authenticity and transparency keep your team under the tent

Right now is the time to seize the power of internal communications. Workplaces are opening back up and workers are looking at reimagining their time there.

Employee communication is critical. Brand recognition and thought leadership start from within. We do this every day. Here are the four crucial steps we take that will elevate your internal comms:

Educate employees and members about your mission and how they’re essential to its success.

In too many organizations, the CEO hasn't thoughtfully shared their vision or the reason why they started their company. If employees can't tap into that story, then they can't tap into their motivation to help the company succeed.

According to a McKinsey survey from 2021, nearly two-thirds of US-based employees said they've focused on defining their purpose in life since COVID-19. Almost half are reconsidering the kind of work they do.

"People who live their purpose at work are more productive than people who don’t. They are also healthier, more resilient, and more likely to stay at the company."

Workers need a sense of purpose. Internal communications teams need to make this their central job.

Engage through two-way messages and channels that reach your audience.

A monthly newsletter isn't enough anymore. Visual media is where our future is headed. Content needs to be moving, fun, and mobile-friendly.

Internal comms teams need a strong mix of content to keep employees engaged. Social media and videos should be in your toolbox too to share a mix of company and industry news, policies and guidelines, and most importantly the company's vision and employee engagement.

One last note: don't over-communicate. Workers are bombarded with information. A recent survey showed they receive more than 120 emails a day!

Segment your distribution to reduce irrelevant information. Cut through the clutter with thoughtful content that engages and resonates with them.

Recognize employees and members for acting.

At Tenpole Strategies, we believe your employees are the stars.?

In the latest McKinsey Quarterly report, ‘Great Attrition’ or ‘Great Attraction’?, employees cited as reasons for quitting was that they didn’t feel valued by their organizations (54 percent), their managers (52 percent), or because they didn’t feel a sense of belonging at work (51 percent).

Inviting and keeping employees inside the tent is essential. When we feature our workers, they feel valued and that they matter. They feel more in line with the organization's purpose.

Measure outreach.
