Yesterday, we had an Info Session with Texas Instruments! Their team shared valuable insights into what it's like to work at TI and emphasized the importance of their core values in shaping the company culture. We also learned about exciting jobs and available internship opportunities. Last week, we hosted?a tour and panel?for the incredible participants of the CURE Internship Program, a high school research immersion effort at UCSF ???? The CURE Internship, a paid opportunity for high school juniors underrepresented in health professions, immerses students in a variety of research subjects while also promoting their academic and professional growth. We are encouraged by these young researchers and look forward to their future contributions to biological research. Thank you, CURE, for working with us to develop the future generation of scientists. #Research #SOLES #STEM #FutureScientists #UCSF #CUREInternship

??Congratulations to our Presidente!?? Your dedication and leadership have been significant to SOLES. Wishing you continued success in your future endeavors ????
As I finish the last nomination for SHPE National Awards, I can say my time as President for the Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists has come to an end. At first, I was doubtful on taking on the leadership role since I went from being a general member straight into President, but I had a clear vision. I wanted our chapter at San Jose State University to be recognized at a University, Regional and National Level; however, it would have not been possible without our PHENOMENAL Executive Board. I can't thank them enough, as without their commitment to see the organization grow, our chapter would not be where it is today. I want to individually recognize our team by highlighting their accomplishments: ? Antonio Hueso-Fernandez - Secured $15k in Funding ? Dillan Hernandez Rojas - Managed $20k Budget ? Shirley Antonio Arriaga - Coordinated sponsorship of 35+ Members to SHPE National and Regional Conference ? Alyssa Escalante - Grew Instagram to 1k Followers ? Caroline H. - Sent Weekly Newsletters to Members including Event Updates, Scholarships and Internships ? Julissa Orantes - Managed LinkedIn Presence and Promotional Material for SOLES ? Andrea Manjarrez & Merari Mejia Robles - Coordinated Sponsorship of 15+ Latinas to SHPEtinas Conference and created events to foster community among Latinas in SOLES ? Cathy Hernandez & David Pe?a - Organized Largest Outreach Event aimed to Inspire the Next Generation of STEM Leaders in Silicon Valley ? Janeth Canseco - Supported Organization with Securing Funding, Creating Events to Increase Engagement and Strong Advocate for Latinas in STEM With the passion of our SOLES Executive Board, we were awarded the "El Ejemplo" 2023 Chapter of the Year from MAES National, "Outreach Chapter of the Year" from SHPE Region 1 and "Excellence in Fundraising" from Associated Students, SJSU. It does not stop here because I believe in each one of the upcoming Executive Board Members and cannot wait to see them elevate the SHPE Chapter at San Jose State University. Thank you to everyone that made the Final Year of my Undergraduate Journey at SJSU one to remember, El Presidente Signing Off ??????

Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that our president, Jose Luiz Sarabia Torres, has earned the distinguished "AS 55 Award!" This is a well-deserved recognition that shows his extraordinary leadership and devotion to SOLES! ?? We want to express our deepest appreciation to everyone who contributed to our achievement this year! ?? #MEP #SOLES #SHPE #EndOfYearAwards #ExcellentFundraisingAward #AS55Award #Teamwork #Leadership #Diversity #Success #Celebration

??Looking back on the insightful discussions SOLES has had these last two weeks?? First, SOLES had a chance to table at the Spartan Showcase, where we had the chance to meet new people and share our accomplishments from the entire year. ?? Then, SOLES engaged in an interactive game with San Jose High School, featuring our upcoming SE co-chairs. Together, we discussed SOLES and SE initiatives, fostering meaningful connections and conversations. ?? Last, SOLES was invited to attend a special event organized by San José State University. Adriana Poo, the Health Sciences Librarian, reached out to us with an exclusive campus tour and student panel for the AVID Program at Columbia Middle School in Sunnyvale, CA. This event is intended to encourage middle school students, particularly those from the Latino community, to seek higher education. We've been asked to offer our experiences and thoughts, acting as role models and mentors for these young scholars. ???? #SOLES #SHPE #Inspire #BuildingOurFuture #SJSU #SPARTANS

Last Saturday, we had an unforgettable beach social at Santa Cruz with the SHPE chapter of UC Santa Cruz, Theta Tau, SJSU Chi Epsilon Student Chapter, and ASCE! ?? From delicious food to friendly volleyball and soccer matches, to relaxing swims, it was a day filled with laughter and connection. These times of shared experiences deepen our relationships and open the door to new opportunities for growth and cooperation. ?? Thank you so much to everyone who helped plan this event and to those who attended! We can't wait for the next one! ??
