The game of sales can be one of the most exciting games to play. So many nuances, so many opportunities, and so many challenges, all rolled into the one game. For many sales teams, it is a tough game to play, and yet for others, it appears to be almost effortless. Why?
For some, it is all about the hunt, the product and the service, and getting that product or service into the hands of as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. These are the sales teams which constantly focus on the ABC - Always Be Closing, and measure success by how many deals they close. Whilst the scoreboard is a measurement of achievement, it can also sometimes paint a false picture as to what is actually going on. The question is, can the sales team back it up again, and again, and can the results they generate become sustainable?
Other teams take a different approach. They understand that their customers are not interested in their product or service - they are more interested in a solution to a problem. Either a known problem, or a problem that bubbles to the surface after having a conversation with the sales person. Sales teams which take this approach focus more on another ABC - Always Be Caring, and instead of seeking to close every deal they can at all costs, they focus their attention on building genuine and authentic relationships, which as a natural consequence, builds trust, and sales flow. They still operate with a sense of urgency, but understand that selling is a long term game, and hence bring a genuine level of authenticity to everything they do, from prospecting, to pitching, to closing, and to maintaining.
