I saw a question on another site the other day that asked “What closed restaurant do you miss the most?” Immediately, I thought about Ching Hwa, our favorite restaurant in Waukesha, WI. Even though it’s been closed for almost 10 years, I still remember everything about it, especially our favorite server Lilly.
We were “regulars”, eating there every couple of weeks and always asking to sit in Lilly’s section. Over the years we got to know her very well. We knew about her life as a child, her children, and even her favorite tea. And, she knew a lot about us, our family, and our jobs. And, she always remembered our favorite Chinese food.
Let me tell you about the food! Every meal was great. My memory has faded a bit, but I think it’s safe to say, we never had a bad meal there. I’d say we had a great relationship with that restaurant. It was the one restaurant we could, without reservation recommend to others. Why?
One phrase comes to mind; KNOW, LIKE & TRUST.?
We got to know the restaurant, the owners, our server, and the food. We liked them all. ?After all the years, we trusted that we would have a great meal and experience there. And we did.
Isn’t that the way it is with everything?
With people? In business? ?Think about it - people do business with people they Know, Like & Trust, (KLT).
Building that KLT factor doesn’t happen overnight. There are lots of facets to it, that all have to work together. It takes time. It takes consistency. And, it takes honesty. One false move can ruin it all.
Getting known, becoming liked, and ultimately trusted takes work. There are lots of things to do and consider. There are lots of moving pieces that need to keep moving together in the same direction.
In harmony. Consistently. Rhythmically. Honestly. Authentically.
And, LinkedIn can help with that. A solid, authentic, honest LinkedIn presence can help you capitalize on developing and maintaining your Know, Like & Trust factor.
The place to start is with an authentic and optimized LinkedIn profile.
Every section of your LinkedIn profile capitalizes on at least one of the Know, Like, and Trust pieces.
The more info you include, the more your profile readers will get to Know you. They’ll learn where you work and worked (experience sections), where you went to school, what you’re good at (skills), what you do outside of work (volunteer and organizations), and so much more.
The Like factor is a feeling and less obvious. People will Like you when they catch a little bit of your personality as you write about yourself in your profile, especially in the About section. If you are smiling in your headshot photo and you look inviting versus fake or stiff, you are more likable. ?People might be drawn to you when they see you volunteer for causes they believe in, belong to the same organizations, or went to the same school. All subtle and a little subjective.

There are also sections of your LinkedIn profile that will develop the Trust factor. Your experience, expertise, certifications, work awards, and even education can demonstrate that you are an expert at what you do, and with that comes a level of trust. A huge trust builder comes with the recommendations you receive from your network. Even endorsements, when they are given by other experts, will help build trust.
I’m not even mentioning all of the additional profile sections like Honors and Awards or Patents.
When you think about it, every available section of a LinkedIn profile contributes to the KLT factor.
Have you filled out our profile completely??If not, you should!
Just imagine what a little more KLT Factor would mean to your business or your job search. Remember, people do business with people they Know, Like & Trust.
