Authentic Books On Indian Astrology
The Origin and History Of Jyotish Shastra or Vedic Astrology :-
Indian Astrology is considered as the eyes of "Veda" ..the ancient scriptures ....
The knowledge which connects the planetary movements with terrestrial affairs .
The connectivity power was unknown to Mankind till the Sages wrote it down .
The ancient Sages created RikVeda , Chaturved Samhita , Vedic ritual performing manual or guidelines , books on Arts , Medical knowledge and books on Astrology .
It can be said that the practise of Indian Astrology started from the time of RikVeda and origin was 6500 B.C .
Indian Sages has devided the knowledge in three divisions of Astrology .
1) Astro Mathematics or Ganit Jyotish
2) Practical Implementation or Falit Jyotish
3) Jyotish Samhita
After the famous battle of Kurukshetra stated in ancient Indian epic "Mahabharata " , Yudhisthir , the elder Pandava with others started his journey towards Heaven and from that time "Kalikaal" ...one form of Yuga (Timespan) started in which period we belong and passing through .
Sage Patashar : -
Sage Parashara was born some years before the battle of Kurukshetra and it is assumed as 3000 B.C .
His son VedaVyas wrote Mahabharata , most probably within 3041 B.C to 3101 B.C .
The first book on Jyotish Shastra which we find that is " Brihat Parashari Hora " written by Sage Parashara .
The book is applied Jyotish or Falit Jyotish . He was creator of another two great books ..Laghu Parashari Hora and Parashar Samhita .
Sage Garg :-
Garg was contemporary of Parashar and his "Garg Samhita " a renowned authentic book on Jyotish Vidya or the subject of Astrology .
Jaimini :-
Jaimini Sutram was written by Jaimini at that time with it's famous theories on "Karakamsa " .
Samudrik Vidya ...a part of Astrology was also contemporary of Sage Parashara .
Mention of this ancient knowledge can be found in Mahabharata along with Ganit Jyotish , Falit Jyotish , Shakun Jyotish . These were the main branches of Astrology .
VarahaMihir :-
Analysis through Palmistry wasn't there till the time if VarahaMihir who wrote "Brihat Jataka Grantha " . This book was on applied Jyotish .
He was the Head Astroger at the court of famous King ...Vikramaditya .
His Teeshkhand jyotish was very famous and other books he had written "Pancha Siddhantika "...Ganit Jyotish and " Brihat Samhita " which depicted Astrogical laws regarding Country and Time .
Kalidaasa :-
The famous poet and writer of Sanskrit classics also wrote three applied Astrology books ...
1) PurvaKalamrita
2)UttarKalamrita
3)JyotirVidyaVarnan
Influence of Greece on Indian Astrology :-
Alexander , the emperor of Greece had attacked India and the influence can be found in usage of many Greek Words such as Drekkana , Mesur , Kriyo in IndianAstrogy and SutahibookYoga which is checked to determine a good moment for marriage , was based on Sanskrit and Roman Language .
The knowledge first time was written in a special form of book , called "Punthi "
AryaBhatta :-
AryaBhatta took birth in Kusumpur ,... todays Patna , in 469 AD .
At his time , Astrology took a great shape .
His book on the movement of Earth was famous and named as " BhattaTantra " .
He was great in Research Work on Astrogy and took his work on a great height .
Bhaskaracharya :-
Bhaskaracharya was born after AryaBhatta and did research work in the field of Astrology . He expanded the knowledge work to a great extent .
Many books were written on the knowledge gained at that time but when Mamud of Ghazni attacked India , all were destroyed ...the creations , advancements and talents .
Then India went under the administration of Muslim Rulers and there were no advancements in the research work and practise of Astrology .
In British period , many books were rediscovered and were translated in English but no original work was done at that time also .
Other famous Authors and Books :-
"Phaladipeeka "..writer Monteswar .
He was born in 1600 AD and his profound
wisdom he shared in Jyotish Shastra .
The book has 24 chapters and with many Sanskrit Shlokas .
"Bhavarth Ratnakar " ..writer Rananuj had described different Yogas and analysed results of asendants .
Total 15 chapters were there .
His famous theory of "Bhavpati Bhavnashae " was a new concept in Astrology .
"Sarvarth Chintamoni "...written by Venkatesharma mainly based on the theory of Parashara .

AND THE LIST GOES ON.....
There are in innumerable books on Indian Astrology written in regional languages .
Harihar Majumdar has written in Bengali and very authentic book to understand Astrology .
B. V. Raman' s books are available in English and if anybody has some understanding on Astrology , can follow his books .
Astrology is a vast subject which requires enough time to learn .
Original books also were compiled with later reflections and that is why editions differ many a time , many postulates were added later .
So in-depth knowledge can be gained by following Gurukul Vidya which is gained from the Teachers and supported by books .
