Austrian Audio OC818, how good is it?

Recently I got to test a new microphone from Austrian Audio, the OC818. For anyone that knows me you would be aware of my collection of mics and the tests I've done to find the perfect ones for my voice work. A few months back I shouted from the rooftops about the R?DE NTG5, their latest shotgun mic, it's great! But when it comes to large diagram mics its a tougher call as there are so many out there over the years I've used a lot and found my Gefell M92.1s to be stellar with its top end sheen and my vintage AKG C414eb P48 great for its richness.
If only you could only put them together, well the OC818 is the perfect combination of their characteristics. It has the sheen of a Microtech and the warmth of the AKG. It’s a fantastic mix. And it's not just on my voice, two days ago I had to record an audition for my daughter and bingo, it just brought her voice to life.
In conclusion for promo and imaging the NTG5 is fantastic, but when it comes to a large diaphragm condenser for commercials or long-form work the OC818 really shines, in fact I was so impressed I decided to keep it!
In a couple of weeks we will do a full review on The Pro Audio Suite podcast.

10 个月I couldn't agree more. I have been a sennhieser fan for years as before voiceover I was and stil am a performing vocalist. So once I got some success in VO I treated myself to a 416 as an upgrade to my trusty RODE NT1. Then I took a chance on a second hand OC818 and bingo. It's now my go-to mic. So detailed. so smooth and is the perfect match for my type of voice. Then I used it to record a song with 7 other vocalists and it worked with each one of them. Honestly, If you offerd me a swap with a U87 AI? I'd decline. This thing is perfect.
