Australian Constructors Association

Australian Constructors Association

Yesterday, I was delighted to be elected President of the Australian Constructors Association (ACA). I would like to thank the outgoing President and Executive Chairman, Craig Laslett for the strong leadership he has shown in getting the revitalised ACA to where it is today and make the commitment that we will continue to build on the great work achieved by him, along with the other members of the Executive and the wider board.

I am conscious that I take on this role at an important time for our industry. With the important task of the post COVID rebuild ahead of us, as an industry we will focus on how we can use this period of investment to create a more sustainable sector that has the capacity to leverage the social and economic benefits of stimulus spending for the community.

We will also continue to push for a sustainable construction industry; doing our part through delivering on the ACA’s “Commitment to our Clients and the Construction Industry.” Our three pillars of “Cultural Change”, “Capability, Capacity and Skills” and “Commercial Frameworks” will be crucial to our efforts to make our industry a great place for people from all walks of life to find rewarding and enduring careers.

We need to continue to improve the our industry wide diversity, connect more with the communities we service and lead in the challenge to minimise the impact of our industry on the environment, all the time looking to drive a more productive output. This will be led through collaboration, smart engineering and the application of modern and progressive methods to be able to deliver the capacity that is needed to align with national growth.

Doing more of the same is not the answer and I am proud of the work the ACA is doing leading, with Governments around the country, to find the new, improved way of working.
