1/5 YouTube Allows Shorts Creators to Access Brand Partnerships?
YouTube is adding yet another feature to its Shorts offerings. Shorts creators will now be able to nudge brands to partnerships, thereby sponsoring their content. The new update will be available to creators who have more than 4,000 subscribers. Up until now, advertisers have had to send individual links to creators they wish to partner with, who then have to accept these in YouTube. This new update will put the power in creators’ hands; they can create branded content without a pre-existing partnership, then reach out to the brand to see if they appreciate the video.?
2/5 Instagram Boosting Spreads to More Posting Options?
Instagram is expanding its “Boost” option, which allows creators access to a simplified ad set-up wherein they can promote their best-performing organic posts. Until now, Instagram has only allowed creators to boost specific posts due to Meta system limitations and copyright. GIFs, stickers and some music are now all eligible for boosting, giving creators far more free reign when it comes to promoting their content. Unfortunately, Instagram has not released any hard and fast guidelines on what makes a post boost-able; so, there will still be some trial and error involved for creators.?
3/5 TikTok Integrates Itself Further Into the Music Industry
TikTok is adding a new music feature to its platform. The new update will allow users to share music directly from Spotify and Apple Music to TikTok. Users can access the feature from their music streaming platform, and click through to TikTok where they can craft a personalized post using stickers. The new feature is sure to appeal to artists who use TikTok as a way to find new audiences, and fans looking to connect over music. TikTok has spent the past year embedding itself deep into music, as it continues to prove time and time again it is essential to the music industry.
4/5 Canadian Government Shuts Down Local TikTok Business?
The Canadian Government has ordered TikTok to shut down its business in the country due to “national security risks”. Canadian Innovation Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne claimed that the move is not an attempt to end the TikTok app itself, but rather motivated by fears surrounding the actions of TikTok. Officials have not released any more details on what caused this decision, nor what TikTok has supposedly done. Yet, the underlying message seems to be that Canada has fears on how TikTok is sharing data back to China; much like the United States.?
5/5 Australia to Block Social Media for Teens?
Australia is continuing its investigation on new ways to protect its teen citizens from the many dangers of social media. The Government is moving to the next step in the process to enact a new social media age limit, which would see under-16s banned from social media. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has made it clear to the nation that the move is to project teen users, driven by a fear from older generations on the harm social media is doing to their children. The Government has remained tight-lipped on what the law will entail and how they intend to enforce it.
