Black Sky Aerospace, a Brisbane-based rocket manufacturer, has made a major breakthrough by becoming the first Australian company to locally produce Ammonium Perchlorate (A.P.), a key component in most rocket fuel. This achievement is a significant milestone towards Australia's self-sufficiency in rocket and missile production and is expected to increase demand for steel manufacturing as more rocket fuel is produced domestically.
The successful completion of the $1 million A.P. project was supported by the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre Ltd and has enabled Black Sky Aerospace to establish a sovereign Australian manufacturing capability with local partners. The company has announced its plans to use the locally produced A.P. to create solid rocket motors for defence and space use here in Australia.
According to Black Sky Aerospace CEO Blake Nikolic, the ability to produce A.P. locally is a crucial step towards achieving a sovereign Australian Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance capability. He stated that "a sovereign Australian capability is a major focus of the capabilities required for the Australian Defence Force."
The release of the Defence Strategic Review has provided the perfect backdrop for the completion of the A.P. project, said Nikolic. He added that "now that we have produced ammonium perchlorate, we have access to all the knowhow and materials we need to make solid rocket motors for defence and space use here in Australia."

This development will significantly enhance Australia's strategic self-sufficiency and increase the nation's ability to develop and launch its own defence and space programs. It is expected to provide a boost to the Australian economy by creating new job opportunities in the manufacturing sector.
The news has been welcomed by experts in the field, who say that the local production of A.P. will help Australia to avoid the risks associated with importing rocket fuel. With this development, Australia will be able to control its own supply chain, which will provide greater security and independence for the nation's defence and space programs.
This achievement by Black Sky Aerospace is a significant step forward for Australia's aerospace industry, and it is expected to pave the way for future advancements in rocket and missile production in the country.
