A Dream
As Dr Martin Luther King said "I have a dream". This is (one of) mine:
Australia collaborates with other countries in research in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning to support Australia and the developing world achieve a low emission future.
A need / an opportunity
with the massive increase in demand in developing countries for air conditioning and refrigeration Australia is ideally placed to support this growth in terms of expertise, research and development and designers etc. The question is will we recognise this opportunity or will we continue to be inward focused and not think outside the square (or state boundary).
Pioneering days
Refrigeration all began with an Entrepreneurial Scotsman in Geelong, Australia. James Harrison is often recognised as the godfather of refrigeration - the pioneer. Maybe he was too early for his time.
High ambient temperature expertise
One of the insights I gained from the Gustav Lorentzen Conference in Edinburgh recently was that a lot of research is needed in High Ambient Temperature applications. Surely we are a walk up start to help play a part in advancing the world in this space?
Then I look around to the centers of excellence in refrigeration and air conditioning degrees and research in Australia, the world leading tafes... there a few - but no where near enough.
We and the rest of the world have a massive challenge ahead of us. How is Australia going to play its part?
