Australia-Indonesia: Indonesia is Not Firm and Weak in the Timor Sea Treaty.
Doesn't some of the sides of the Timor Gap directly adjacent to West Timor belong to Indonesians ?.
Doesn't Indonesia have the same rights and interests as East Timor and Australia in this oil and gas field?
It is also very unfortunate when the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs set that the Timor Sea issue, which is covered by the Timor Gap and the gugusan Pulau Pasir-Ashmore Reef, is something that is not worth talking about again.
This is despite the fact that the Timor Gap and the gugusan Pulau Pasir-Ashmore Reef are located in the front yard of the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
For this reason, it is very natural if one of the nation's children from Rote Island-East Nusa Tenggara, Prof. Dr. Herman Johannes, former rector of Gajah Mada University before the Timor Gap Agreement was signed by Foreign Minister Ali Alatas and Gareth Evans from Australia, strongly criticized and demanded that the agreement be reviewed or canceled because it caused serious harm to the Indonesian people who inhabit the East Nusa Tenggara region.
The Indonesian negotiating team was deemed too willing to serve Australia's interests by ignoring the national interest in the agreement.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Herman Johannes stated that Indonesia had conceded with the 1971-1972 Agreed Seabed Boundary which agreed to Australia's argument about the extension of the natural land under Timor Sea where the sea boundary line between Indonesia and Australia is determined far to the west approaching the coast of Timor Island.
Then Indonesia without any burden continued to sign a 1974 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the rights of traditional Indonesian fishermen, which made no sense.
However, everything has changed where all the MoUs and agreements made have been included in the 1997 RI-Australia Agreement which cannot be ratified.
Even though Australia's argument about the extension of the natural landmass is just a lie;.
INDONESIAN DEMANDS AUSTRALIA:
We on behalf of the Indonesian people residing in East Nusa Tenggara urge the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to immediately declare that:
1. All RI-Australia agreements in the Timor Sea in the years 1971-1997 are declared null and void and are no longer valid.
2. We are the People of the Independent Republic of Indonesia
3. Since 2020, Australia must immediately leave the entire area of the gugusan Pulau Pasir-Ashmore Reef
Thank You.
