Austin ISD Begins on Project Lighthouse to Improve Student Connectivity with New Internet-Boosting Utility Poles
Austin ISD is set to update its digital landscape with a fresh initiative that amplifies internet coverage for neighboring residents and students, dubbed Project Lighthouse. The district will witness the installation of utility poles across different campuses, a move geared to maintain connectivity in areas hitherto grappling with spotty internet service.
According to KVUE, those set to first benefit from this program include Austin High, Akins High, and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy, along with a selection of elementary schools. The district, which inked a contract with Branch Communications in 2021 to pitch the utility poles, has yet to release a full-blown construction schedule.
