The Aurora Pump Conundrum: MTH Pumps Has the Solution

For those familiar with the world of pumps, you may recall that Pentair acquired Aurora Pump Company a number of years ago. Recently, it has come to MTH Pumps’ attention that Pentair has notified its distributors and representatives that they are completely discontinuing their line of regenerative turbine pumps.

What many may not know is that for decades, MTH Pumps manufactured all of the regenerative turbine pump impellers for Aurora Pump. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a decline in orders from them, and we anticipated this day might come.

While we are saddened to see Aurora’s regenerative turbine pump line come to an end, we’re excited to announce that MTH Pumps has hydraulically suitable replacements for many of the discontinued Aurora models. If you’re a user or distributor of these pumps, MTH is ready to fill that gap.

We suspect this shift in Aurora’s business model stems from a greater focus on multi-stack centrifugal pumps. However, those familiar with pump technology know that regenerative turbine pumps often have lower NPSH characteristics, leading to reduced cavitation and better performance in high-temperature applications. Additionally, regenerative turbine pumps have fewer moving parts, resulting in less downtime and lower maintenance costs. By contrast, multi-stack centrifugal pumps, typically made from stamped stainless steel, may not offer the same level of reliability as MTH’s durable cast-metal components.

If you’re looking for alternatives, I encourage you to visit our Aurora Pump replacement page. There, you’ll find suitable replacements for Aurora’s 110A, 120B, and 130 series pumps. Keep in mind that while these pumps are not exact plug-and-play replacements—and their parts are not interchangeable with Aurora pumps—they offer the same superior performance and reliability that regenerative turbine pumps are known for.
