Aur Sirji Kaise Hoon ! My Learnings

Being a bachelor, i consume my afternoon meal almost everyday from Swiggy, Zomato & Fresh Menu of the world. But not a single App asked me "Aur Sirji Kaise Hoon" ( How are you sir ? ) apart from simply "Thank you for the order!"

This is what the guy at the Junka Bhakar ( small shop which sells home cooked food ) always ask me when i am at his shop to buy my dinner. So "Aur Sirji Kaise Hoon" was a everyday thing. My dinner buying experience was far better than best of the apps of the world since i was learning a lot from this guy. And i am dammmm sure that this guy will do wonders in his life.

This is what i learned :

  1. Strike a conversation - Have seen in the social gathering, business meets, people are shying off to strike a conversation. On the day 1 - this guy handed over me the leaflet of his small outlet mentioning all his services - special Sunday food, customized food and so on. He asked me my name and phone number which he stored in his mobile - here on started with the whats app promotion. He use leaflet - I use my visiting card to start off conversation ..... "so hows the business doing?" Adding their phone number right from their visiting cards to my phone and sending them a Hi ! ( This sure helps in connecting ) right at the same time.
  2. Always Smiling - Smile is the best way to connect. And the best part of smile is - its a viral thing. Right now just turn to your left and give a wide smile to the person next to you, I bet he/ she will definitely smile back. Smile makes you welcoming and more friendly.
  3. Remember Names - Hey ! Whats up ? OR Ramesh ji ! Whats up ? - Which sounds better ? Of-course people like to be called by their name. Remember their name and they will remember you.
  4. Obligation - Always carry a small gift which you can give to them when you meet. They will remember you for life. I usually gift protein bars ( this is where I work ) when I meet people. Going empty handed is a crime for me. Especially for the sales people - when you meet someone - gift them something, they are now under the debt (obligated) to hear you out now. Try it
  5. Double the Hand Shake - Chinese / Japanese people bow down while greeting each other. In India, in corporate world its always a hand shake. In a day you might handshake to 10 different people. To make a difference make use of other hand too. Use both the hands ! While shaking hands, you do it with your right hand, now place your left hand on top of their hands. This enhances the trust in them.
  6. Don't be so serious - Keep the talk light. A bit of fun element in your talk adds to the charm. Why to be serious - you are not dead ! You can start with " It made my day seeing you lovely people today. You guys are amazing" as oppose to " Topic for today is ..... , i am gonna speak on .... "
  7. Hear them out - Everybody wants to be heard out. You say and ill listen is the best way to engage. If anyone is angry, let them vent out their anger, let their anger go away by venting out - simply hear them out - do not react. Let them calm down and now say what you want to. This reminds me of a story - I was walking around in the market, happen to bash my leg into a small stall, all the things went off the shelf and flying everywhere. The guy got pissed and in matter of zero seconds he started abusing me, I quietly picked up all the things ( took me 15 mins ) collected all the things and handed over to him. All he was left was with a SORRY and a THANK YOU. So all you have to go is Shuuuuuu .... just hear them out.
  8. Monday or Tuesday - Are you meeting me ? OR Meeting me on Monday or Tuesday ? Which will work better ? Why to ask a question which will have a negative side. Always ask a question which will have both the sides in your favor. Will you marry me ? Or Do you want a grand reception or simply a court marriage ? What would you like ? Ask questions in such a way - just to win.
  9. Keep in touch - Grow your network! By this day I must be having more than 10,000 + Visiting Cards. Not all you can be in touch with but yes in a span of next one year - send them some gifts or a card or a message to just stay in touch. World becomes smaller when you stay in touch. I wanted to get in touch with a person of higher authority - to meet him, it was next to impossible. All I had to do is - send a text message in a whats app group. And yes in next 5 days I was able to meet this person. via via via ..... people.
  10. Upsell - So you want to live a healthy life, why don't you go for some fitness thing. Start Small - Go for a Jog, This is a really good shoes that will help you jog and run in 5K Starters Marathons. Marathons are fun and up thing today. So while you run you will sweat, you should wear a dry fit material T shirt and Shorts, it will soak all your sweat, its a must. This will be first time you will run, it will be very exciting for you monitor your daily improvements in terms of calories burns, steps taken - you can set your goals, you can also compete with your friends. And this is the best thing ever mankind created - A watch that will monitor everything, even your heartbeat rates. So when will you get time for all this Fitness regime ? Weekends ! Oh you have office and dont have time to run during week days, by the way your office is just 30 mins from your home right? Why don't you cycle to your work. Hey just check this entry level cycle. You work in XYZ company, ABC company is next to yours, this guy cycles everyday to work and he is super fit now. Go for the cycle - all yours. SOLD. All the best sir - do keep in touch ... smiles | What did we sold : Shoes, Tshirt, Shorts, watch, cycle and much more in coming months ( repeat customer if he really gets into fitness )
  11. Help Others - No explanation needed in this - Just GIVE GIVE & GIVE ( with no expectations ) - it will come back to you in some other way. Always help.
