AukWords September 2020: Reset

In last month's AukWords, I shared on Optimism. In it, I alluded to the Great Reset. Yesterday, I had my own.
My Own Reset
Last night, I posted on Facebook.
- At the Vet Emergency. Panda's legs have gone weak. Awaiting word. Thoughts and/or prayers most welcomed.
The support during those hours of waiting was appreciated. No one truly knows. And they were a long 3 hours. I posted on the experience via video.... and an update this morning, And then, this morning, I posted on LinkedIn.
- "As I begin again, years later, working my "comic strip dream" and launching the AukWords strip into 2021... and after yesterday... I thought I would try my hand at my first "#family portrait". Yesterday, I had a scare. Panda started wobbling and dropping. I took her immediately to Emerge. After testing and care and me waiting, turns out she may have some neurological issues. Not life threatening but quality of life affecting. That said ... she is home and under loving care. The next week particularly under watch. Thoughts and/or prayers welcomed. This artwork this morning is a work in progress (my first family portrait) but, with Panda resting and beautifully taking her medicine, I am reflective on she and I as family. I love this #bestlittledogintheworld so very much... and Panda will be a recurring little star in this childhood dream. She is my little star. Taking a relax day and being here for the little one. Know your "family". #Love them."
So What?
Why do I offer this? Last evening was a reset, unexpected and mind blowing. I did not see such coming, not unlike my own stroke back in 2015. The vet's guidance was around blood work, meds and rest. My own inner guidance was around reset. Rest and reset.
Life has a way of surprising, in small and large ways. Our capacity to learn is often seen as some more traditional sense of "school". Life is school. Learning is growth. Learning, in school and life, requires Discernment and Creativity...
Critical thinking and creative problem solving. This is Discernment and Creativity; and the world could use both in heaping doses now and going forward. Fake news does not have a chance in the face of these powerful virtues. Conspiracy theories are like flotsam on the ocean of Discernment and Creativity, just dissolving away. Together, they are the work of learning. Learning. Every moment. Every day.
Tests and Learning
Someone recently asked me if I think trials are tests. My response was that I think everything is a test. Trials and triumphs alike. Success can test our character every bit as much as our fall; maybe even more so. I also said that a test is not designed to intentionally fail a student. A good test is to assess learning. And we often get to re-write. Yesterday was such for me. Those few hours were a powerful classroom. The lesson was Reset.
Thoughts on that Reset
As I am working on my new website and an ever more fierce and loving focus around the work of Character and Unity, I know what yesterday taught me about both. I know the deep importance Panda has for my life and how much I want to provide for this little #sliceofGod that lives with me. I know, ever more clear, what matters most to me personally and professionally, and I know how little time and energy I have for anything else.
I increasingly know the importance of the Wisdom of Desiderata.... and these words by Robert Fulghum.
I better understand the Wisdom of LP Jacks.
“A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.”
And these words of Brene Brown...
- “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”
- “Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change.”
And these words of Baha'ullah...
CO-OPERATION
The world is in such opportunity for reset now. We are experiencing a collective stroke. What we do, in conscious and purposeful Cooperation, will define what happens next.
Yes, co-operation. Cooperation. Yesterday, my own little world experienced such reset. In the hours afterwards, my mind, body, spirit and Soul started discerning, creating and cooperating. The results will unfold and affect my values, vision and mission. They will impact my priorities and help eliminate whatever distractions and doubts do not serve. I learned such after my stroke. I am learning anew now.
AukWords will have a new star; Panda. My work will have a greater synergy and Cooperation. My life will have such. Indeed, and while resting with Panda this morning, I re-created my vision board for the balance of the year, with ever and even greater balance.
We Need Resets
Rests are necessary. Indeed, Life or Nature or Source or God (or whatever) will keep teaching until we learn and learn again. This story arises for me today.
For me, AukWords has a new central character, these many years later... Panda... the most central character in my life; from whom I learn so very much.
For You
- Who teaches you? Who and what are your best teachers and mentors?
- What do you most need to learn now?
- What is your needed Reset?
- Where do you need to look for guidance?
I also respectfully and lovingly offer this conversation with Stephanie Staples and Joe Calloway that speaks to thinking, creating and resetting.
Reset matters. Discernment and Creativity matter in such. As does Decisiveness and Initiative.
I have to go and spend time with my little teacher now. I just discerned, created and decided on the rest of our day. Now, I initiate. That is my purpose, now. :-)
... peace, passion and prosperity.

Lead, inspire, educate, and unite. Move forward together, stronger. My work is about bringing campuses, companies and communities together, moving forward stronger. I work with educators, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders to do just that. My work is about character leadership and education and its role in helping individuals and organizations build a better world at school, work, business and community. I deliver on it through speaking, coaching and development in character leadership and education. My expertise is character leadership and education. I advance unity in diversity by moving the needle on leadership and education that is high character and results forging. I speak, teach, coach, facilitate, lead, write, sing, dance, cartoon and create on that. In 1980, Professor Rolf Hattenauer changed my life. A highly respected expert in Human Resource Management, he expected much of us and he believed much in us. He was an educator and leader of high character. He was extraordinary. To this day and beyond, I try my darnedest to honor his spirit with my own work. That is another story. But I hope I did him service here.
