Planting Site Updates
This week the Tambellup Noongar rangers are on-site at Tootanellup, on Minang Noongar Country, to hand-plant around?10,000 seedlings. These seedlings will infill areas of the site that were too wet to plant last year. Additional lines have been ripped and around?7kg of biodiverse seed mixwill be sown to increase the density of the planting.
This is our very first year of planting at Porongurup, on Minang Noongar Country. Jess and Cath will be on site this month to assist Dr Geoff Woodall with this carbon restoration project. Restoring this site is of high value to the local ecosystems or landscape.?We will be sowing?~10kg of biodiverse native seed mix?and hand-planting?~1,000 Karri seedlings.?
Regen the Plains held their second annual event, on Yorta Yorta country, on Saturday 6th August. This event attracted 30 dedicated community members for a weekend of tree?planting, music, culture and camping.?350 native trees?were funded by Carbon Positive Australia were planted, guarded and watered during the event.?
Last week, the team from APACE were up at Eurardy Reserve, on Nanda Country, collecting seed for next year’s planting. The seeds you see in the photos below will be dried and treated then taken to the nursery where they will be grown into seedlings. Next year, we will be planting approx?300 hectares?of the sandplain area of the?Eurardy Reserve, the key components of the restoration will include?Calothamus,?Lamarchea?and?Allocasuarina.?
Located in a medium to high-value koala habitat, this northern NSW property was previously used to graze Dexter cattle and has been extensively cleared. This 33-hectare ecological restoration project will provide a wildlife corridor, linking up remnant bushland between two national parks and increasing habitat for a range of endangered species (including koalas). Industry Round-up
For Landholders and others interested in revegetation work, there is now some support available. Grants may be available for those who have ideas on increasing groundcover and want to try them out.?
Last month, the Noongar Boodja Ranger team visited the Wyalkatchem Golf Course where they undertook malleefowl mound monitoring to see if they could find any mounds within the patch of known malleefowl habitat.?
