August Industry Update Newsletter
Games Factory Talents | Connecting Passion & Talent
We connect talented Games industry professionals with leading studios from Europe.
Hello ??
The summer is approaching its end and we are back to work!
Traditionally in August we attend the biggest European games industry conference Devcom and Gamescom in Cologne.?
Gamescom 2024: A Recruitment Perspective
As we look back at Gamescom 2024, it's clear that this event remains one of the most significant in the gaming industry—not just for showcasing the latest titles and technologies but also for the opportunities it brings in recruitment.?
The gaming industry is evolving faster than ever, and staying competitive means more than just following trends—it requires active participation in shaping the future.?
For professionals, particularly those involved in recruitment, Devcom & Gamescom offers a unique environment to engage with the industry's best and brightest talent.
Here’s our main takeaways from the conferences:
Comprehensive Industry Insight
Gamescom provides a 360-degree view of the current gaming landscape. For us it’s invaluable. Understanding where the industry stands and where it’s heading allows us to align our recruitment strategies with the latest trends, ensuring they attract talent that is not only skilled but also forward-thinking.?
The positive: many studios secured investments.?
The negative: there are not that many new job openings, but our reasoning is that many those laid off got into new roles.?
The crisis in the industry is not over yet, so studios are taking very cautious decisions when hiring. However they need people to do the work and therefore they chose contractors over permanent hires at the moment. We feel this is a great opportunity for many experienced game developers to offer themselves as contractors if there are not many good offers on the table at the moment.?
Face-to-Face Engagement
One of the standout aspects of Gamescom is the opportunity for face-to-face interactions. In a world where virtual meetings have become the norm, the value of in-person discussions cannot be overstated.
These direct engagements help us better understand the talent needs of the studios and the challenges they are facing right now. We met our old partners and had some deep conversations there.
We are very optimistic after these discussions because we saw and tried new games from our partners that are about to be released or going into early access. The new great products are coming!?
Understanding Industry Challenges
Gamescom is also a hub for learning about the challenges that companies across the industry are facing. This knowledge is particularly useful for us (recruiters) who need to identify candidates who can not only meet current demands but also navigate future obstacles. Understanding these challenges helps in crafting job roles and descriptions that attract problem-solvers and innovators.?
Main challenges we identified.?
Opportunities we have noticed: some of our partners launched branded web-stores to diversify their revenue stream and be less platform dependent.?
Networking with Peers
Beyond recruitment, Gamescom is an ideal platform for reconnecting with industry peers. These relationships are more than just professional—they’re a source of inspiration and shared knowledge. For recruiters, networking at Gamescom can lead to partnerships and collaborations that open up new talent pipelines and opportunities for mutual growth.
Getting a recognition among the industry

Gamescom offers a moment to reflect on the progress made since the previous year and to plan for the future. For us in recruitment, this is an opportunity to assess the effectiveness of past strategies and refine approaches to meet evolving industry needs.?
We were humbled to be nominated for the best Support Service Provider by PocketGamer.biz at Mobile Games Awards 2024. Even though we did not win the nomination we received the honourable mention at the award. Very special thanks to Pocket Gamer team for this recognition!
