August

August was a month with electric vehicles and traffic pollution high on the agenda. Early in the month we also discovered that air pollution can be linked to antibiotic resistance and this is a serious problem for our health, particularly when we are already fighting antimicrobial resistance.

Results from several new studies were announced that link air pollution to other medical conditions including dementia, lung disease and asthma.

As our children head back to school in the UK we took a look at ventilation in classrooms and how air pollution can be linked to childhood obesity.

At the end of August we proudly announced that our MD Dr Chunli CAO is a finalist in the MSDUK Innovation Challenge.

Key takeaway points this month:

  • Air pollution linked to antibiotic resistance
  • NASA announced a new mission to map air pollution in 3D over four North American megacities
  • A new electric vehicle (EV) is registered in the UK every minute
  • Children who move to areas with higher levels of air pollution more likely to gain weight...
  • Wildfires and farming linked to increased risk of dementia
  • Air pollution speeds up the progression of lung diseases such as COPD and asthma
