Summer may be winding down, but we’re still chasing that feeling here at GOCO.?
Our short documentary Legends of Great Outdoors Colorado created in collaboration with Futuristic Films continues to inspire Colorado pride across the state with GOCO’s origin story. Next up, it’s hitting the big screen at the Breckenridge Film Festival in September. If you can’t make it to Breck, don’t worry! Watch it anytime on our website.
We want to give a big shoutout to the Colorado Parks & Wildlife team for launching a brand new website! It’s an important tool helping connect Coloradans with recreation opportunities, education programs, conservation efforts, and more.?

NFWF accepting RESTORE proposals
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is accepting proposals for the Restoration and Stewardship of Outdoor Resources and Environment (RESTORE) Colorado program. Approximately $4.5 million in grant funding is available for projects that restore, enhance, and expand wildlife habitats. This year’s grant priorities are watershed resilience, Eastern Colorado grasslands, Sagebrush rangelands, and Big Game winter range and migration corridors. Colorado Outdoor Regional Partnerships Initiative (RPI) grant recipients
Gov. Polis, CPW, and GOCO recently announced the latest RPI grant awards, which helped establish two new partnerships in southern Colorado. The network now includes 20 coalitions made up of outdoor organizations working together for our lands, waters, and wildlife. That’s roughly 75% of the state represented so far. ? Learn More
Where Do You GOCO - Recently completed projects
In recent months, seven projects crossed the finish line representing $626,022 in GOCO investments in local communities across the state. With the help of a GOCO grant, Aspen Valley Land Trust and the Town of Carbondale completed restoration projects at Red Hill Trailhead and Riverfront Park. Funding also supported Colorado Open Lands in conserving the 149.9-acre Kuhn Ranch in the San Luis Valley.

CPW Land and Water Conservation Fund + Non-Motorized Trails 2025 Grant Rounds
Pre-apply by Sept. 3
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and Non-Motorized Trails (NMT) 2025 grant rounds are open. LWCF grants support statewide outdoor recreation projects including development, renovation, and maintenance of resources to increase sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities. NMT grants focus on trail construction, maintenance, and support while protecting wildlife, habitats, and cultural resources.

This free, bilingual event at Colorado Mountain College celebrates work being done to create new paths for diverse communities addressing equity and language justice in outdoor recreation. Enjoy storytelling, workshops, poetry, and performances focused on culture, access, and outdoor connections.
SunFest 2024
Sept. 27 | 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Join The Colorado Sun at the University of Denver for SunFest 2024, a full-day event uniting Coloradans to explore what makes A Better Colorado. Participate in one-on-one conversations, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions with top leaders in politics, the outdoors, the environment, and education. Topics will include mental health in mountain communities, Colorado’s public lands, debunking water myths, and more.
Rising Routes Outdoor Recreation and Education Survey?
Complete by Nov. 15
Rising Routes and the University of Colorado Boulder are studying equity in outdoor recreation and education to enhance collaboration and support for providers serving underrepresented communities. They seek input from decision-makers, executive directors, and leaders of outdoor education and recreation organizations through a survey that will help shape local and statewide decision-making, policy, and programs. Participants will be entered to win a $100 Visa gift card and a strategic coaching session with Rising Routes.
