August Auction Personal Preview: Alexis Pullman, Photographer
I’m drawn to the sense of movement created through optical distortion in two of the pieces in this month’s auction. First is the Richard Anuszkiewicz "Rustic 348" painting…it looks like a groovy portal you can walk right into. His use of bright yet muted colors achieves a subdued vibrancy that works with the lines to communicate a sense of depth and movement. Plus, the action changes depending on if you are looking at it up close or far away. The other piece is the Markus Pierson "For the Roses" sculpture . I love the exaggerated, cartoony aesthetic because it’s enjoyable to look at, and it’s what gives the sculpture movement. I also appreciate how the coyotes’ costumes complete the sculpture’s story. I’m a costume designer and can relate to how specific dress not only helps establish a story line, but also draws the audience into the intended world. Explore the August 20th auction catalog .
