Haydee Dijkstal has been instructed to act as international counsel for a Saudi man sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia following unfair trial proceedings for exercising his fundamental right to peaceful expression and association.???
In June 2022, Mr Muhammad Al Ghamdi was arrested and detained in Saudi Arabia.??He was charged for expressing?his opinions and concerns on the Government’s actions and policies publicly over Twitter, and for viewing and engaging with YouTube channels critical of the Government.???
In accordance with this instruction, Ms Dijkstal submitted a communication to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and raised his case before UN Special Rapporteurs.?
Aqsa Hussain secures an acquittal and a hung jury on a two-count indictment for her client.
In a trial relating to the mass production and supply of cannabis across the South Derbyshire area, Aqsa Hussain secures an acquittal and a hung jury on a two-count indictment for her client.
During a 6-week trial at Derby Crown Court, initially involving 13 defendants and including a discharged jury, Aqsa represented one of only two defendants who proceeded to trial, each facing a two-count indictment of conspiracy to produce and conspiracy to supply cannabis.
Following the trial which included numerous witnesses, expert evidence, legal arguments and lengthy jury deliberations, her client was acquitted of being involved in a conspiracy to supply cannabis. On the remaining count of being involved in a conspiracy to produce cannabis, the jury was unable to reach a decision and therefore discharged.
