Are frontline workers open to new safety technologies? A recent report from the National Safety Council (NSC)’s Work to Zero initiative reveals that more than 4 out of 5 workers are willing to embrace new safety technologies. The study, which surveyed 1,000 workers and 500 employers, found strong support for innovative safety measures, particularly among those concerned with fatigue, heavy equipment operation, and other common workplace hazards. EU AI Act takes effect, paving the way for global AI regulation. The European Union’s landmark Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act officially came into force on August 1, 2024, marking a milestone in the global landscape of AI regulation.?While the Act is now a law across all 27 EU member states, most of its provisions won’t take immediate effect. Instead, a phased implementation timeline has been set, with key provisions, such as the ban on “unacceptable risk†AI practices, starting in February 2025. The Act also introduces new regulations for general-purpose AI models, which will need to comply with transparency, security, and risk mitigation standards by August 2025. Can a positive workplace safety culture reduce injury costs and lost workdays? A recent study from the 澳大利亚å—æ¾³å¤§å¦ suggests that it can. Employers with strong psychosocial safety climates — characterized by safe working conditions, supportive relationships, and low stress — experience significantly fewer lost workdays and lower injury costs. Analyzing workers’ compensation data from 100 employers and nearly 13,000 claims, the study found that organizations with a high psychosocial safety climate (PSC) had an average of 68 days lost per injury, compared to 177 days for those with very low PSC. Additionally, injury costs were more than double in low-PSC organizations. “These findings provide more evidence that ‘healthy’ workplaces matter,†study co-author Maureen Dollard, a professor at the university, said in the release.
