August 2023 Sustainability Wrap Up

As the number of individuals who care about purpose, mission and values of the brands they’re using increases, it is crucial for companies to reflect these key factors in their business strategies. As we navigate these changing dynamics, it's imperative to address consumers' growing concerns and expectations.

On August 17th, we hosted the "At the Threshold - The Power of Purpose-Driven Business" event at AT?LYE Dubai. Our guest, Samie Al-Achrafi, led us through discussions on business blind spots, the significance of purpose, mission, and values, and how becoming a B Corp can effectively balance purpose and profit. Africa Climate Week 2023 is one of four Regional Climate Weeks held this year and serves as a vital platform to build momentum ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP 28 in Dubai. It also contributes to the first Global Stocktake, which aims to fulfill the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Where: Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi, Kenya.

Africa Climate Week 2023, a crucial annual event that brings together leaders from governments, businesses, international organizations, and civil society to address the urgent challenges posed by the climate crisis. This year's event will be hosted by the Government of Kenya and will run alongside the Africa Climate Summit. During the summit, African leaders will be called upon to make ambitious pledges and commitments towards the adoption of a "Pledging and Commitment Framework."

Where: Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya

B Lab Africa a global network of purpose-driven companies, will host summit with the theme "Innovating a Sustainable Future for Africa: Business for Climate Impact and Growth."? This summit is a unique opportunity for changemakers like you to drive positive change, network with industry leaders, and explore thought-provoking sub-themes that shape the future of our continent.

• “Morocco: The Green Kingdom”: This documentary is a must-watch for anyone interested in sustainability and renewal energy. It outlines the top 3 countries in MENA region including UAE that are leading in renewable energy projects. The documentary sheds light on Morocco’s ambitious goal of achieving 52% of its total energy from renewable sources by 2030. LINK
• UNDP Climate Dictionary. Climate literacy is crucial for mobilizing collective action, simplifying climate jargon, we enhance inclusivity in the fight against climate change. The Climate Dictionary, spearheaded by UNDP is a fantastic initiative that bridge the gap between complex scientific jargon and the general public, making climate concepts accessible and relatable through storytelling and visuals. 87 days to the start of COP28 UAE on 30 November, ending on 12 December. COP28 aims to unite the world and keep the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5C within reach. With over 70,000 participants expected, including world leaders and young people, COP28 will shape the course of international climate action and emphasize the importance of inclusivity and collective action.
