August 2023 Round-up

August 2023 Round-up

In the coming weeks there are lots of exciting and educational fundraising conferences happening regionally around the UK. These events are organised and led by our volunteer committees. They do this in addition to their day jobs because they are passionate about fundraising and supporting fellow fundraisers. So, a huge thank you to all our volunteers for all that they do.? ?

Scottish Fundraising Conference kicks off next week on 5 and 6 September in Glasgow,? North West Fundraising Conference is on 20 September in Chester?and the West Midlands Conference is on 5 October in Birmingham. Be sure to check out the information and get booked up as each of these events is a great opportunity to learn, network and connect with fellow Career Fundraisers.??

Last month I told you of how we launched our Growing Giving hub to help find ways to increase giving in the sector. We would love to hear from you on how you believe we can help grow charitable giving by completing a short survey here. We encourage every fundraiser, charity and partner we work with to share their ideas so that together we can shape the future of fundraising.?

We also have some new blogs on the hub from Suzanne Lewis, Founder and Managing Director from Arc Data talking about the role direct mail plays in building relationships with new and existing supporters, and Sebastian Lewis, Co-founder of Plucky talking about how they adapted to changing donor habits to create new giving products. Both these blogs can be found here.? ?

The Chartered Institute is delighted to again be a Host Board for UK Boardroom Apprentice 2024. This exciting opportunity gives people a chance to experience what it’s like to have a seat at the table on our board. Our Chair Nadine Campbell wrote a blog last year on how she found the project and her journey from fundraiser to the boardroom, and how Boardroom Apprentice helped her. Read Nadine's very interesting blog here. If this sounds like an opportunity, you'd be interested in applications open on 4 September so please do apply.? ?

You may or may not be aware that the Chartered Institute is part of many projects and Remember a Charity is just one. This month Remember a Charity Week is taking place on 11-17 September. This is a UK-wide annual awareness week that sees charities, government, and the legal sector come together to celebrate the power of legacy giving. Find out more about this and what's happening on their website.??

We also lead on GivingTuesday in the UK. GivingTuesday takes place on 28 November and this month we are holding a free online webinar on 21 September by marketing professional Tereza Litsa sharing her top tips on social media and digital engagement for making the most of GivingTuesday. If you would be interested in this, you can register here.???

If you are off to the Scottish Fundraising Conference next week, then I look forward to seeing you all there. I hope you all have a great September and I look forward to sharing more news with you next month.?
