Asia's biggest sustainable hospitality event – PHIST 6 – is coming up on September 4th in Phuket, Thailand.
Mark your calendars for an event that's set to transform the landscape of sustainable hospitality – PHIST 2023! We are thrilled that PHIST 6 will finally be back in-person this year. On September 4th, in the captivating locale of Phuket, Thailand, we're coming together at the SAii Laguna Phuket for Asia's most prominent sustainable hospitality event. Hosted by C9 Hotelworks , Phuket Hotels Association , and Greenview, this one-day extravaganza promises a wealth of knowledge, workshops, networking, and a chance to connect with industry trailblazers.
The day will be packed with opportunities to delve into sustainable practices. Workshops that span a spectrum of topics, a platform for networking, and an avenue to meet thought leaders await you. Plus, there's an exciting exhibition showcasing sustainable suppliers and services, giving you a firsthand look at cutting-edge sustainable solutions.
Workshop Highlights:?
Of the 16 workshops at PHIST 6, Greenview will be hosting two workshops! Participants will get the opportunity to engage with the latest trends in sustainability, learn from experts, and gain insights that they can apply to their own journey towards sustainability.
Workshop 7: Best Practice Trends – Phuket Sustainability Data Trends?
At 1- 1:50 pm in the Talay Room, Eric Ricaurte and Yan Yong Teh will be hosting Workshop 7 to present the results of the Phuket Sustainability Data Trends program. As this program was part of Greenview’s global benchmarking initiatives, Eric and Yan Yong will be highlighting the relative strengths and weaknesses of Phuket as a destination in comparison with the region and globally, drawing from Greenview’s Green Lodging Trends Report data set of over 27,000 hotels. PHA members will be the primary audience for this session.

Workshop 13: Net Zero Roadmap for Hotels?
At 3- 3:50 pm in the Talay Room, Sahil Aggarwal and Kah Heng Leong will be hosting Workshop 13 on Net Zero Roadmap for Hotels, which caters to participants of all levels of sustainability knowledge. In the session, they will be providing an overview of net-zero as a concept and what it means in practical terms for hotels as an asset within and beyond the four walls, based on the hotel net-zero methodology and practical use among several companies to date.

CHSB Latest Update
Last month, Rehmaashini Jagarajan, PhD (Senior Manager at Greenview and CHSB author) presented “Unlocking Sustainability Insights: Exploring the Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index 2023” at the GSTC Webinar. The webinar uncovered the Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking (CHSB) Index 2023 key findings, how to effectively utilize the CHSB dataset as a hotelier, travel buyer, or sustainability practitioner and gain a deeper understanding of its alignment with Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria.

Did you know that hotels participating in CHSB automatically meet some of the GSTC criteria?
Now that CHSB 2023 results have come out and been analyzed, we have begun shifting focus to next year’s CHSB. As the deadline for submitting forms for participation in CHSB 2024 passed last week, this is a reminder to submit your 2022 data by August 31st for those who have already submitted their participation forms. You can submit the Data Collection Form to [email protected].
Once you have submitted your 2022 data, you can expect to receive a confidential Validity Test Report and a Benchmarking Report, including your energy, carbon footprint, water, and waste performance against peers by December 15, 2023. Your hotel (company) will also be listed on the public report as a participant of CHSB2024.
Hotel Footprinting Tool Update
Greenview’s Hotel Footprinting Tool has been updated to use the latest results from Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index 2023 (CHSB 2023). The Hotel Footprinting Tool calculates the carbon footprint of hotel stays or meetings anywhere in the world. By using CHSB 2023’s data which has increased hotel segmentation, the Hotel Footprinting Tool is now able to provide more accurate calculations of hotel stay footprints. WiT (Web in Travel) (WiT) Indie event at Penang (Jul 27)
Last month, our CEO, Eric Ricaurte was a speaker at the WiT Indie event in Penang to an audience of over 100 people. This was the first in-person WiT event since COVID hit! His segment was titled "Sustainability & How It Affects Customer Choices. Or Does It?". The talk was aimed at independent travelers and hoteliers in Asia and provided insights on sustainability choices and deciphering what the consumer sentiment on it really means.
The WiT event in Penang will be followed by another WiT event in Singapore on October 2-4. The theme is “The Human Revolution” – to highlight how the hospitality industry can navigate these quickly changing times through AI technology yet still preserve the unique human touch and values. ACE Learning - Sharing by Eric and Jasline
Last month, Eric Ricaurte and Jasline Ng were guest speakers at the Ascott Centre for Excellence (ACE) Learning Fest 2023 – Hoteliers Edition in Singapore. The theme was navigating the journey towards sustainability in the hospitality industry. During the session, they shared their expertise and knowledge on what hotel best practices should be adopted to meet the goals outlined in the Singapore Hotel Sustainability Roadmap.
Inbuilt HCMI tool on Greenview Portal
Greenview Portal’s users can benefit from automatic room and meetings carbon footprint calculation with the inbuilt Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI) tool on the Portal. It automatically calculates each property’s performance according to the HCMI methodology using data entered by the properties. For non-portal users, the HCMI tool is available to all for free here.
