The highly anticipated Prime Day event for 2022 has come and gone with mixed levels of success. While sales are expected to total $12.52 billion this year, the question on everyone’s mind is how much of the increase is due to consumer demand and how much is due to inflation?

We’ll take a look at how successful these strategies were by examining the results from Feedvisor customer sales and advertising data across Amazon’s U.S. marketplace during Prime Day events from 2021–2022, identifying key trends and KPIs to share our insights and projections for the remainder of the year.

Prime Day is Social Commerce

Prime Day is the best example of social commerce in the U.S. - videos tagged with #primeday2022 were viewed 52 million times on TikTok. Shoppers turned to social networks to discover the best deals rather than trying to find them on Amazon.

Last year, videos tagged with #primeday2022 was viewed 30 million times, the year before - 6 million. In 2019 it was virtually zero. Not only has TikTok gotten more popular in the U.S., but its users started watching more shopping-related content.

Amazon is raising Prime prices in Europe by up to 43 percent a year

Amazon is raising the price of its Prime subscription across Europe in September by up to 43 percent a year. In an email to customers overnight, Amazon revealed its annual Prime cost will jump 20 percent in the UK from £79 to £95 from September 15th. In France the price hike is even more acute, moving from €49 per year to €69.90 — a 43 percent increase.

Amazon will also hike prices in Spain and Italy by 39 percent annually, with the company’s second-biggest market, Germany, seeing an annual 30 percent rise. Amazon’s Prime price increases in Europe come just months after the price of Prime in the US rose to $139 per year, up from the previous $119 annual fee.

Amazon Business raises the table stakes for B2B marketplaces

There is no getting around it. B2B marketplaces are the fastest-growing sales channel in B2B e-commerce, according to data in the forthcoming 2022 B2B Marketplace 400 report from Digital Commerce 360. And a big reason accounting for the rapid growth in online B2B marketplace sales is Amazon Business.

Bank of America Securities projects that in 2022, Amazon Business will post $41.5 billion in gross merchandise volume. That would be up 31.7% from a projected $31.5 billion in 2021. Amazon Business singlehandedly would account for 31.9% of all B2B marketplaces sales, or one in every three transactions, Digital Commerce 360 estimates based on these projections.

A new Aliexpress Plus service is launching this August in France?

The Alibaba group's marketplace is improving its offer in France by focusing on faster delivery and better product selections.

In August, Aliexpress will launch a new space on its French homepage called Aliexpress Plus, a new category that does not require membership. This space, still being tested, will offer a selection of higher quality products, available for delivery in 2 or 3 days and from brands such as Xiaomi, Dreame and Roborock (robot vacuum cleaners).?

New brands such as Haylou (Bluetooth headphones), Sofirn (torches) and Seaknight (fishing) will be available. It will be easier for their customers to find their quality products, delivered more quickly, and therefore to benefit from a better overall experience and an optimized service.
