August 19-2024: A Recap of What Happened in The Digital Space Last Week

X and Threads rolled out new analytics dashboards. ChatGPT now allows you to create 2 images and X Grok AI allows you to generate images.

Meta

• Meta shutdown CrowdTangle, a valued misinformation tracking tool ahead of the November presidential election, researchers and journalists lament the Wednesday shutdown. The tech giant says its other tools are more effective.
• Meta announced Threads web features including insights, multiple drafts and scheduling functions to make it easier to plan content and connect with new and existing audiences.

??Scheduling will begin testing soon.

• Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and X failing to remove dangerous suicide and self-harm content. More than 12 million content moderation decisions were made by six of the biggest platforms, over 95% of them were detected and removed by Pinterest and TikTok only
• Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg received a letter from lawmakers concerned about illicit drug ads on Facebook and Instagram?
• Instagram ram has a new UI when editing a post that allows users to add collaborators
• #Instagram now allows you to ?include up to 20 frames in a single carousel
• WhatsApp is rolling out a category feature for the channels directory. This new feature is aimed at enhancing content discovery and it automatically organizes channels into relevant categories, simplifying the exploration process for users.

Telegram launched monetization features for Channel owners

TikTok

• TikTok announced a Group Chat feature for DMs for up to 32 people so that easily share their favourite videos.
• TikTok launched an incentive program to reward users with Amazon gift cards if they can get YouTubers with over 10k followers, and Instagram users with 100k, to sign up to TikTok as well. Is TikTok struggling with growth in numbers?

X( formerly Twitter)

• President Donald Trump made a comeback on X platform by having a conversation with platform owner, Elon Musk on X Spaces. Although, the X Spaces had glitches which Elon Musk attributed to a DOS attack, the X Spaces generated around 1 Billion views. X Data also shared audience insights of the X Spaces Interview

• Grok AI tool integrated into X now allows you to Generate AI Images. On Monday, Elon Musk announced that Grok 2 beta will be released soon.? Grok 2 allows you to create images. If you are on Premium you can try it. Check out a thread of some of the AI Art I generated here

• X has rolled out Audience Analytics for Premium Subscribers showing your audience Age, Gender, Country and times when they are most active. These insights are helpful to help you understand your audience better and when you should be posting content?

• X is working on X Conferences

• X Faces Bans in Both Brazil and Venezuela Amid Ongoing Disputes. Also, X said it’s closing operations in Brazil. The announcement comes amidst a legal battle with Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who sought to block certain accounts on X as part of an investigation into election disinformation and “digital militias

LinkedIn

• LinkedIn Outlines Improved Semantic Search Capacity. It has built-in more elements to understand and respond to search queries, both in relation to the overall query text (including concepts, not just keywords) and personalization, based on past engagement.
• LinkedIn now allows you to edit Scheduled posts. All this while, you had to delete a scheduled post if you wanted to edit. I also noticed the interval has reduced to 15 min from 30 min
• LinkedIn begins adding Videos For You, a new section in the feed that suggests videos to watch. You can scroll horizontally and vertically

Google, YouTube

• Google launched an update to its “Trending Now” tool, an element of Google Trends, which provides insight into each trend, including how long the topic has been trending for, total search volume, and more.
• Google announced they facing an issue with ranking in Google Search that's affecting a large number of search results.
• Google is testing the addition of links to relevant web pages directly within the text of AI Overviews. Also, Google is expanding the availability of AI Overviews to the United Kingdom, India, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico and Brazil – along with local language support in each country
• YouTube is testing a sleep timer on its Premium tier the feature will come in?handy for people who like to go to sleep with long podcasts or white noise playing in the background
• YouTube is testing a content feed experience that consists of a mix of video formats including long-form videos and Shorts.

OpenAI

• OpenAI announced the ability for ChatGPT Free users to create up to two images per day with DALL·E 3.
• OpenAI has banned a cluster of ChatGPT accounts linked to an Iranian influence operation that was generating content about the U.S. presidential election
• OpenAI has closed its waitlist for SearchGPT Prototype they announced in July 2024. SearchGPT is a temporary prototype of new AI search features that give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources.
