Augmenting Reality, Augmenting Learning

 Tell me about Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality refers to the overlay of digital information to your immediate environment that enhances and augments it, hence the term Augmented Reality. The difference between VR and AR is the environment in which it operates. VR simulates environments and places the viewer in an artificial experience. AR on the other hand, superimposes immersive and participatory layers of digital information onto the real environment for greater interaction.

AR and VR are no longer new. However, the leaps in technology and the era of digitalization means there are more ways the technology can be used to teach more innovatively and effectively. Here are some of the opportunities you can use AR to reshape how lessons are taught.

Living and Breathing Textbooks – A hands on learning experience

Students can now learn from “living and breathing” textbooks with the aid of Augmented Reality. For example, a lesson on the heart no longer has to be confined to static texts and annotated photos. Instead, a lesson on the heart can feature a moving, beating heart that can be examined up close, making the lesson more interesting and contextual. Using AR, students can interact with the heart in real-time to gain a deeper understanding of its core functions and processes.

EON Reality worked with Deakin University to develop the AR Cardiac ECG model, which allowed students to interact and learn. The numbers speak for the incredible potential that can be unlocked in learning and teaching.

AR Worksheets – The dog can no longer eat your homework

AR technology can be used anywhere, even in the comfort of the student’s homes. Using AR to engage students has become much more interesting and easier than before. Students can now point anywhere to launch the lesson and other contextual elements of the lesson such as quizzes, videos, recorded audio and a true to live representation of the 3D object. Using the range of materials allows for students to learn independently by doing and at their own pace.

How can I create AR lessons immediately?

In an age where the development of new digital technologies is picking up pace, learners are afforded a wide array options. Among them is the EON Reality AVR platform, an award-winning, cloud-based platform which allows lesson creation in VR and AR for any subject.

Students or teachers can simply create their own lessons using EON Reality’s vast library of more than 870,000 3D virtual assets to launch a personalized learning experience. There is no coding experience or knowledge required, only step by step instructions to make their own interactive lessons.

The EON Reality Vault, where a ready-made application catalogue for VR and AR can be launched immediately. It is our very own “Netflix” of AR and VR, available now.

The AVR platform also allows users to upload their own models, which can be published and used immediately. Supporting more than 25 languages, the AVR platform simplifies the process of creation and distribution, allowing students and teachers worldwide to enjoy the benefits of interactive learning with no fuss.
