Industry News:?SXM Media release their 2022 Podcast Trends Report

SXM Media recently announced their new?Podcast Trends Report, which was curated, researched, measured, and analysed by the SMX Media team of in-house experts. Who are SXM Media??They are the largest podcast publisher in the US with over?150 Million Monthly Listeners. With these kind of statistics, it certainly is research to take note of.

Here are some of their key findings:

  • SXM Media podcast audience?grew?123%?in the past year
  • They discovered a rise in?younger?listeners, 66% of listeners are aged between?18-34 years old
  • 36% of the listeners said they were?more likely to?hop?from one podcast to another
  • Small Business Owners?came in at number 10 as a subject for the?Biggest Audience Opportunities

Over the past year, podcasts have grown to new heights. It’s clear that podcasting is a community, curating fandoms and a?sense of devotion?that you just don’t see in other mediums.

Interestingly their report showed that approximately half of the U.S. population has still never listened to a podcast—that’s millions of potential consumers that have yet to fall in love with podcasts like we have. And we have the content to do just that.

Podcast Tip: How to create great podcast artwork

First impressions count. Your podcast artwork will be the first encounter people have with your show. A professional-looking appearance is fundamental.?Here are my tips for creating great podcast artwork:

  • Look at the current top-ranking shows in your podcast’s category. Judge the?effectiveness?of the imagery. Notice colours, artwork and fonts shared by the most popular shows. Is there a style preference for the genre? Do the highest-ranking shows disrupt that pattern?
  • Ensure that your design and fonts?translate equally?as a large image or a tiny image inside an app on your phone
  • Think again about the?purpose?of your podcast. How important is it that your name is displayed there? You may decide to keep your artwork clean and simple, highlighting the show’s name only. Personally, I prefer those with simplicity. Too much going on visually can feel messy and overwhelming
  • Whether or not to include a picture of yourself is a style choice. It depends how far you are using your show as a?personal brand-building?vehicle. Is your following big enough to warrant that at time of launch? I do use a photograph of me on my podcast because a great deal of my messaging is about visibility and being seen. My face has to represent that

Don't forget, your podcast should look as though it?belongs to the genre, and should draw attention. Your artwork should ‘pop’!

Much love

Anna
